Cardiff City have finally made a summer signing, and with it also the first acquisition of the Brian Barry-Murphy era in charge of the club.

The Bluebirds began the season with a 2-1 win over Peterborough, coming from behind to claim victory.

Cardiff have brought through some incredible prospects this summer under their new manager, which makes sense due to his ability to develop young talent, as seen in his previous role with Manchester City.

There have been rumours of Calum Chambers potentially leaving Cardiff, while Irish international Callum Robinson may too soon look for a move away.

However, Barry-Murphy has made it clear who he wants at the club moving forward.

Barry-Murphy wants more signings and to lock down players’ contracts

Speaking to Wales Online, Barry-Murphy made it clear there are several key players whose contracts he wishes to have sorted out as soon as possible.

This includes the likes of Perry Ng, Ryan Wintle, Dylan Lawlor, Isaak Davies, Joel Bagan and Matthew Turner out of contract next June.

He said: “I made my feelings really clear on how much we value the players in the building, and hopefully there will be follow Ollie’s [Tanner] example.”

However, after the club made their first signing in the shape of Nathan Trott from Copenhagen, there is hope more could soon follow.

He said: “It’s an ongoing process. The people behind the scenes in particular have been working really hard, and I suppose I’ve put a lot of demands on a lot of things at the club in a short period of time, and that’s been very evident in the recruitment department.

“To see the work going on behind the scenes is satisfying for me.

“We have a vision that’s really aligned; myself and the board, and on behalf of the supporters, it’s really specific profiles that we want to bring into the club.”

Barry-Murphy’s views on his first signing at Cardiff City

Speaking to the club website after the deal had been finalised, Barry-Murphy seemed excited by the latest acquisition.

He said: “We want to recruit absolute quality in every area of the pitch and players that can play the way we see the Club playing as we move forward, and Nathan embodies all of that.

“I’ve known and watched Nathan play for a long time. I actually managed against him while he was on loan at Wimbledon.

“He fits the mould of the player we want to attract to the Club. He is still very young; he has a high level of skill and also has real room for growth and improvement to take his game to another level, and that’s the challenge we’ll put to him.

“We’ll also be looking to him to use his experience to provide leadership qualities to the squad.”
