Cardiff City have begun their League One season with a win over Wimbledon, coming from behind to win 2-1.

The Welsh giants have not been too busy in the transfer market this season, focusing on the talent they have in the squad and refreshing the squad with underage talent.

Brian Barry-Murphy has already shown signs this early on in his approach and style that there is a reason Cardiff are favourites to go up this season from League One when compared to those relegated from the Championship last season, Plymouth Argyle and Luton Town.

However, Cardiff have been happy enough to let some of the players they don’t deem of sufficient quality to help the team moving forward go, while Callum Robinson may be leaving the club too.

Now they have confirmed that another player has moved away from the capital city of Wales.

Ryotaro Tsunoda has left Cardiff City

Cardiff City defender Ryotaro Tsunoda has been sold back to former club Yokohama F. Marinos, making him the 13th departure from the club this summer, according to Wales Online.

The Japanese defender did not feature in a single minute of competitive action for the Bluebirds, having spent two spells out on loan during his 18 months contracted to Cardiff.

He was brought in during the January window in 2024 but was immediately sent out on loan to the Belgian top flight with KV Kortrijk.

Tsunoda suffered an injury that ruled him out for four months when he returned to Cardiff, and so never had the chance to feature for the club.

He may be pleased to leave the club to be able to get his career back on track, returning to Japan and his former club.

The 13th departure from Cardiff City

There have been some high-profile names to depart the club this summer, as the club look to rebuild.

This has seen some experienced players depart, like Aaron Ramsey and Anwar El Ghazi.

While Callum O’Dowda left the club to join Ferencváros and play Champions League football under fellow Irishman, Robbie Keane.

Cardiff fans may be hopeful that there is some business done before the end of the window to strengthen the squad slightly ahead of a long season with a youthful and inexperienced team.
