Bristol City man ‘wants to join’ Turkish side Goztepe after £868k bid despite Gerhard Struber claim

The Turkish transfer window closes on September 12, and one top flight outfit has been shopping in the Championship ahead of deadline.

Bristol City have made an impressive start to Championship life under summer appointment Gerhard Struber.

Many Robins fans feared a drop-off from their top-six finish form after Liam Manning’s move to Norwich City, but Struber’s new-look side sit sixth amid the international break.

Bristol City face Sheffield Wednesday this weekend when second tier action resumes as the Robins look to continue their winning run post-break.

Although the Championship transfer slammed shut last week, the Turkish league transfer window remains open until Friday, and one forgotten Bristol City man appears to be on the move across Europe.

Bristol City striker Sinclair Armstrong to join Turkish side Göztepe

Before the international break, Bristol City dealt Hull City a heavy defeat, but one Robins player who did not feature during the Championship clash was Sinclair Armstrong.

Armstrong has made just one start this season in the Carabao Cup defeat to Fulham last month and has been granted just 50 minutes of league action by Struber this season.

With Emil Riis arriving at Bristol City earlier this summer following his exit from Preston North End, and the Dane’s impressive start to life at Ashton Gate, Armstrong has lost out with Riis’ signing due to his limited game time.

As a result, after 43 outings for Bristol City since arriving from QPR last summer, Armstrong “wants” to join Turkish Super League side after their £868k (€1m) bid for the out-of-favour forward.

Sky Sports reporter Lyall Thomas stated: “Goztepe have made an £868k (€1m) bid for Bristol City’s Sinclair Armstrong.

“The offer is for either a permanent move now or an initial loan plus an option.

“Bristol City are considering the bid. The player is not in their plans and is understood to want to leave and join the Turkish club.”

Gerhard Struber was set to give Sinclair Armstrong a new ‘lease of life’

Despite the Robins’ sixth-placed finish last term, Armstrong managed only three Championship goals in 37 outings in a lacklustre debut campaign.

Earlier in the summer after Struber’s arrival, Bristol City chairman Jon Lansdown indicated that the likes of Sinclair were set to be given “a new lease of life” under the former Barnsley boss.

Lansdown told the BBC: “Gerhard (Struber) often plays with two up top, it’s a completely different thing. It gives a new lease of life to your Fally’s (Mayulu) and Sinclair – they will be a really good fit for this style.

“We still need more because you might have two playing up there rather than one. It’s things we’re already thinking and already on.”

Even after Nahki Wells’ departure from Bristol City, Armstrong has failed to work his way into the forefront of Struber’s selection thoughts and is now poised to leave Ashton Gate for Goztepe.
