Bristol City head into the new Championship campaign looking for a reaction after their play-off semi-final defeat in May.
The Robins were beaten 6-0 by Sheffield United over two legs, and with Liam Manning later departing for Norwich City, it’s a season of the unknown for those at Ashton Gate.
Jason Knight is well-liked by Premier League clubs and Manning may look to reunite with some of his former players.
Nevertheless, the addition of Emil Riis is an exciting one, with the striker joining Bristol City following the expiration of his contract at Preston North End and EFL Analysis has taken a look at two winners and two losers from this deal in the south-west.

Two winners and two losers at Bristol City after Emil Riis’ arrival
Winner – Anis Mehmeti
Anis Mehmeti had to bear a lot of the responsibility going forward for the Robins last season, with the versatile attacker scoring 12 times in the Championship in 42 games.

The Albania international needs more support from his teammates, and after a difficult campaign for the strikers at Ashton Gate, the arrival of Riis will no doubt help ease some of the pressure on Mehmeti in the future.
Able to play off the left, right and behind the number nine, the 24-year-old is a real asset to have and if he can combine well with the new signing, Bristol City could be on for a good season.
Loser – Sinclair Armstrong
It was not the first season in BS3 that Sinclair Armstrong would have hoped for, and after scoring just three goals in the Championship, Riis will be a threat to his place in the team.
Robins fans were sad to see Nahki Wells leave, but the arrival of their new star striker will help ease that pain. However, questions will be asked of Armstrong following his £2.5m switch from QPR last summer, as per the Irish Independent.
The 22-year-old has never truly been prolific, and with just 11 career goals to his name, he will be forced to watch on as the Dane takes precedence in the starting XI.

Winner – Scott Twine
Similar to Mehmeti, Scott Twine took on a lot of responsibility last season going forward and having some of that pressure eased will help in 2025/26.
With five goals and three assists to his name in 35 games, the ex-MK Dons ace will be looking for some improvements himself but by having the threat of Riis in front of him, providing more assists may become a little bit easier.
Twine is a set-piece technician, and with Bristol City’s new striker a threat in the air, it would not be a surprise to see them combine on a few occasions in the new campaign.
Loser – Harry Cornick
This summer must surely be the end of Harry Cornick at Ashton Gate after a really tough year for the forward.

A mix of injuries and selection difficulties saw the former Luton Town man spend the majority of the season watching on from the sidelines, and Riis’ arrival will only put him further down the pecking order following a three-appearance season.
Bristol City have been out of the top flight for 45 years, and Cornick will not be the man to help take them back. A move away is perhaps the best way for him to get back on track
