Bristol City will be hopeful they can build on their impressive Championship campaign from last year as they begin life under new boss Gerhard Struber.

Adam Randell and Emil Riis have moved to Ashton Gate as Struber looks to shape their squad to his liking while aiming to keep those players who were key to the club last season.

The Robins reached the play-offs for the first time in 17 years last season but lost Liam Manning to Norwich City and also striker Nahki Wells, who joined Luton Town.

While Wells was an important player within the club, he departed for free upon the end of his contract and so did not fetch a fee.

However, it got us thinking at EFL Analysis, what is the biggest transfer sale Bristol City have ever made?

Here are the five most expensive sales Bristol City have ever made, according to Transfermarkt.

5. Bobby De Cordova-Reid – £9.8 million

Starting off our list is the Jamaican international, with his move from Bristol City to Cardiff City fetching a fee of £9.8 million.

The striker came through the Bristol City academy, and he impressed in his final three seasons of senior football with the Robins, after working his way into the first team across five earlier campaigns.

De Cordova-Reid particularly impressed in his final season with Bristol City, as he scored 21 goals in 52 appearances, which captured the attention of Cardiff, who were in the Premier League when they acquired him in the summer of 2018.

4. Jonathan Kodjia – £11 million

Jonathan Kodjia only spent one full season at Bristol City before Aston Villa signed him for a fee of £11 million, an offer that was too good to refuse.

The Ivory Coast international scored 20 goals in 48 appearances in his one full season with the club in 2015/16.

Villa would bring him in the summer of 2016 with the aim of the signing to bring in one of the most prolific Championship strikers to fire the Villans back into the Premier League following their relegation to the second tier ahead of that campaign.

He would perform in that first season for Aston Villa, as he scored 19 goals in 36 matches; however, he would not feature as heavily the following year.

In their promotion campaign he made a significant impact before featuring in one season in the Premier League before departing Villa in January 2020.

3. Lloyd Kelly – £12.8 million

The second player on the list to come through the Bristol City youth system, with the defender featuring at the senior level for the club across two seasons.

Lloyd Kelly made his debut for the Robins in August 2017 against QPR in the EFL Cup, and he has gone on from strength to strength since then.

His second full season of professional football would be the one in which clubs sat up and noticed his potential, with Bournemouth winning the race for his signature.

The Cherries bought Kelly for a fee of £12.8 million in the summer of 2019, bringing his chapter as a Bristol City player to a close.

2. Adam Webster – £19.2 million

Adam Webster came through the Portsmouth academy, working his way to Bristol City through a number of EFL clubs, including Ipswich Town.

He would only spend one season at Bristol City, impressing in the 2018/19 campaign to earn a move to the Premier League with Brighton and Hove Albion.

Webster would make only 47 appearances for Bristol City across all competitions before his move.

The defender has impressed in his time at Brighton, becoming a key component of the defence in his first four seasons before now being used as a rotational option in the last two campaigns.

1. Alex Scott – £19.9 million

The most expensive transfer sale that Bristol City have ever made is Alex Scott, when he left the Robins to join Bournemouth in the summer of 2023 for a fee of £19.9 million.

Alex Scott began his career at Guernsey but had been of interest to both Southampton and Bournemouth through his youth career.

However, he opted to sign for Bristol City in December 2019 by signing a pre-agreement.

He would feature across three seasons at the Robins, impressing in his final two as he featured heavily, earning him a move to Bournemouth with the Cherries paying £19.9 million to sign him.
