Ipswich Town are still searching for their first win of the season after they drew their opening Championship fixture away to Birmingham City before being eliminated from the Carabao Cup by Bromley.
Their elimination from the competition gives them an unwanted piece of history in the competition, with only one team boasting a worse record than the Tractor Boys.
Now, Kieran McKenna has his sights set on the weekend and Ipswich Town’s first home fixture of the season, when they will face Southampton, who have made a perfect start to the campaign, kicking it off with a dramatic win over Wrexham.
Ipswich have been busy in the transfer market this summer, both in the way of incomings and departures.
The Tractor Boys recently said farewell to Nathan Broadhead, who left for Wrexham, while Nottingham Forest are now said to be interested in Omari Hutchinson, after the winger had been left out during the week.
This has left the club needing to bring in reinforcements, with Kieran McKenna identifying a Spanish starlet.
Ipswich set to sign Ivan Azon
It had been reported by Fabrizio Romano that Ipswich were set to hijack a deal between Como and Valencia for Spanish striker Ivan Azon at the start of the month.
This has come to pass, as Cesc Fabregas has now admitted that he is set to lose the striker to the Championship club, with the former Barcelona star frustrated to lose him.
Ahead of Como’s Coppa Italia fixture with Sudtirol, Fabregas confirmed that Azon had chosen to join Ipswich Town.
He said: “I wanted to keep Ivan Azon, but this morning he took a trip to Ipswich.
“A loan deal that’s good for the club and for him; he’ll play in an important, difficult competition. It’s his choice. We have to wait; there are two weeks left.”

Knock-on impact of this loan
It has been reported in the East Anglian Daily Times that the signing of Azon will see Ali Al-Hamadi move on from the club.

This may be due to Marca reporting there will be an obligation to buy the 22-year-old if promotion to the Premier League is secured this season, with the fee set to be between €10m and €12m.
The striker had been subject to interest from several League One clubs, including Luton Town and Cardiff City, and Championship side Charlton Athletic, with TEAMtalk reporting that McKenna is prepared to let him go.
