The summer window is now in full swing now, and we’ve gathered all the top stories from the second tier, including updates on Sheffield Wednesday and Middlesbrough.

The 2025/26 Championship campaign is now less than one month from kicking off.

Some clubs, including the likes of Norwich City and newcomers Birmingham City, have been very active on the transfer front.

However, others have had slow starts, with Middlesbrough fans still waiting for their club to kick into gear.

Now, find out about the latest transfer news and rumours from the second tier of English football.

Middlesbrough transfer problem

Boro ended the 2024/25 season down in 10th place, their lowest during the Michael Carrick era.

In turn, fans likely expected a rebuild this summer, but so far, incomings have been few and far between.

On that front, Middlesbrough like Pavel Sulc and David Strelec, but the main problem with targets like this, as our transfer expert Graeme Bailey explained, is that the Teessiders didn’t get promoted, and top-flight moves for such players seem more likely.

He said: “The problem is Middlesbrough didn’t get promoted. It’s the same problem when it comes to David Strelec, the Slovakian striker Boro like. It looks unlikely they will get him, with Celtic also interested.

“It’s really tough and Middlesbrough are not particularly confident when it comes to Pavel Sulc. It will be hard to persuade those kinds of players to come to the Championship – not impossible, but difficult.”

Louie Barry to Hull City update

Reports earlier in July claimed that Hull City were set to sign Louie Barry for £3.5m.

However, the Tigers were hit with a three-window embargo, leaving question marks over a deal for the Aston Villa man.

But there is some hope for the Yorkshire club, with Bailey revealing to EFL Analysis that Barry’s move to Hull cannot be ‘completely ruled out’.

He added that there is ‘confidence’ regarding the club’s financial issues being resolved.

Sheffield Wednesday transfer news

We revealed earlier this week that multiple bidders are pushing for a takeover at Sheffield Wednesday.

For now, though, the only deals being worked on by the Owls on the transfer front are outgoings.

Djeidi Gassama’s transfer to Rangers is expected to go through soon.

Sheffield Wednesday have agreed terms for Sutura Kakay, who will be joining Championship rivals with compensation owed to the Owls.

Anthony Musaba is departing as well, having left the club’s training camp to secure a move to Turkey.
