Dejphon Chansiri leaves Sheffield Wednesday star in limbo, his likely departure could be reversed

Sheffield Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri is holding up the sale of one Owls star.

Sheffield Wednesday are in the midst of a transfer embargo, prohibiting them from signing players for the next three transfer windows, including loans and free agents.

Dejphon Chansiri has overseen financial turmoil at Sheffield Wednesday, with players and staff not receiving payment, something that has led to talks around a sale being accelerated.

At this moment, there are positive signs that a takeover of Sheffield Wednesday can be completed in the next weeks, with American businessman John Textor showing interest in the club.

Because of Sheffield Wednesday’s financial situation, departures are expected at the club; however, one that looked set to go ahead may be u-turned.

Sheffield Wednesday’s sale of Djeidi Gassama placed under threat by Dejphon Chansiri

It looked set that Sheffield Wednesday were to sell Djeidi Gassama to Rangers for £2.5m, with the Glaswegian club getting a cut-price deal for the Owls star due to the financial state of Dejphon Chansiri.

However, as reported by The Star, Sheffield Wednesday owner Chansiri is yet to sign off a deal for Gassama to leave the club, despite the Owls attacker already completing the medical. Gassama has already bid farewell to the Sheffield Wednesday camp, with the fair assumption that the deal would be completed by now.

It could be guessed that Chansiri has potentially had a change of heart regarding the sale of Gassama, whether a sale has progressed further to the point where a prospective new owner has a say in the winger’s sale, or alternatively, Danny Rohl may have had a say in the player’s future.

Why Sheffield Wednesday would benefit from keeping Djeidi Gassama

Whilst the price tag of £2.5m is far below what Sheffield Wednesday should be demanding for Djeidi Gassama, it made sense for Dejphon Chansiri to move on the young forward to help with the short-term running of the club.

However, if a deal for someone to take over from Chansiri at Sheffield Wednesday is near, the club should do everything in their power to backtrack on their deal to sell Gassama.

The long-term benefits of keeping Gassama are massive. Another season in Danny Rohl’s side, providing that he can continue to show his quality, could easily triple his value from the agreed £2.5m with Rangers.
