Dejphon Chansiri makes Blackburn Rovers decision amid £1m interest in Sheffield Wednesday starlet

Blackburn Rovers are continuing to make moves late into the summer transfer window after an indifferent start to the season.

Lewis Travis departed the club earlier this week, joining Derby County on a four-year deal after a decade at Ewood Park.

However, Valerien Ismael has been keen to keep his foot on the accelerator and Rovers are closing in on their ninth signing, with Andri Gudjohnsen set to make his way to Lancashire.

Nevertheless, bringing in more youth is crucial for Blackburn and their long-term success. But their pursuit of one particular star looks to have ended before it truly began.

Ismael has made no secret of his desire to bring in another striker, with Sambou Soumano on their radar. Yet, it is another Championship side who may hold the key for Rovers.

But according to Alan Nixon, Blackburn have been turned down by Sheffield Wednesday after showing interest in Bailey Cadamarteri.

He said: “Blackburn Rovers have been snubbed in a surprise bid to sign Bailey Cadamarteri from Sheffield Wednesday for NEXT season. Rovers offered over £1m for the young forward and were willing to leave him with the Owls for the season.

“The cash would have helped Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri pay the wages at the cash stricken club. Cadamarteri would have been sent back to Hillsborough for the season which would also have worked out well.

“Wednesday could have been allowed to ‘sign’ Cadamarteri on loan despite their current EFL restrictions. However, Chansiri has said no and the move has been shelved for now.”

While selling the 20-year-old would not be ideal, bringing him back on loan would be the perfect way to ensure that Sheffield Wednesday do not have any major problems in the short-term.

However, Chansiri has made it clear on a number of occasions that he is unwilling to part ways with players this summer amid the transfer fee restriction that has been placed on the club.

For Blackburn, this will be massively frustrating and it means that with just a few days to go in the transfer window, Ismael’s plans have changed once again.

Nonetheless, there is still time for Rovers to force Sheffield Wednesday to change their minds, and an improved offer must surely be accepted by Chansiri as the Owls’ financial issues continue.
