Former Wrexham star Jordan Davies ‘highly recommends’ method he used to seal EFL transfer

Wrexham youth product Jordan Davies has earned himself a move in the English Football League after being without a club for three months.

The 27-year-old returned from Brighton to North Wales in 2020, just prior to the Hollywood takeover of Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds. He helped the Welsh club get promoted all the way up to League One in 2024, before being loaned out to Grimsby Town last term.

His third spell with Wrexham came to an end last campaign after the club’s promotion to the Championship as his contract expired. After bagging 31 goals in 139 performances for Wrexham, the former Brighton man has been a free agent for the whole summer.

Now, though, he’s sealed a move in the EFL – and he’s credited The Professional Footballers Association for their role in helping him complete it.

Jordan Davies thanks The Professional Footballers Association after signing for Fleetwood

Davies completed a move to League Two Fleetwood Town on Wednesday, signing on a one-year deal subject to international clearance.

“Delighted to be here!” Davies wrote on X following the announcement.

However he also made sure to thank the PFA for having him during their pre-season and in their free agent XI.

“Massive thank you for helping me throughout pre-season,” he said on X. “I would highly recommend it to anyone in the same position I was.”

Davies was the PFA’s top scorer in pre-season, and the Cod Army will no doubt be hoping he can replicate that same form in League Two this term.

The ex-Seagulls youth player was starring alongside a number of former Premier League and EFL players also looking for a new venture this summer.

Former Ipswich and Sunderland striker Conor Wickham among PFA free agent squad

A number of big names from years gone by are playing in the PFA’s free agent XI, and the body is helping out-of-work stars keep up their fitness, as well as putting them in the shop window. Club scouts are invited to attend the clashes as they assess the free agent market.

Britt Assombalonga is playing there after his time in Turkey. Fabio Borini, Rolando Aarons and Tyreece John-Jules are also starring for them.

Adam Reach could be a decent option for Sheffield Wednesday to bolster their threadbare squad amid the chaos under Dejphon Chansiri.

Meanwhile, ex-Crystal Palace striker Conor Wickham is also playing for the PFA. He has reappeared after being without a club for the last year since leaving Charlton Athletic at the end of his short-term deal.

The PFA XI have been playing behind closed doors friendlies against league sides, with the latest coming against Newport County.
