Hayden Hackney’s future has dominated the headlines throughout the transfer window.
So far, Middlesbrough have been able to hold onto their star player after Hackney rejected a move to Ipswich Town earlier in the summer.
Rob Edwards will be desperate to keep the central midfielder at the Riverside Stadium at all costs, but a huge bombshell has threatened to disrupt Boro’s brilliant start to the Championship season.

Hayden Hackney wants to leave Middlesbrough on one condition
With only a matter of days to go, Boro thought they were home and dry; however, Hackney has had other ideas.
As reported by Peter O’Rourke, Hackney has informed the Teesside club that he wants to leave if a Premier League team makes a bid for him.
West Ham United are one of the clubs watching Hackney and news of his desire to leave if a top flight club come calling couldn’t be at a worse time.
Middlesbrough signed Abdoulaye Kante this summer but the midfielder is a completely different style, meaning that a new signing would have to be found.
Middlesbrough don’t have time to find a Hayden Hackney replacement
Every player has an asking price but even if a Premier League club matches what Middlesbrough would deem acceptable, it is too late to find a replacement.
The 23-year-old is a unique talent for starters and once he leaves, other clubs will know that Boro are in the market for his replacement; prices will be hiked up.
A loan deal may be plausible with only a few days left but for now, the Teessiders may have to dig deep and keep him until January at the very least.
