Hayden Hackney’s Middlesbrough request causes more concern as another Premier League club eyes late move

Middlesbrough have been fighting off interest in Hayden Hackney all summer, and it only looks to be getting tougher to do so as we edge closer to the transfer deadline.

Rob Edwards has made a perfect start to life as Middlesbrough manager in the Championship, achieving something they only managed 31 years ago, and when they did this, they went on to win the second tier.

While Middlesbrough will be fully focused on their upcoming Championship fixture with Sheffield United, with the stats pointing to a victory in their favour, there is still a lot of interest in their youthful star Hayden Hackney.

It had been hoped that the decision to sell Finn Azaz to Southampton would mean they could hold onto Hackney; however, the midfielder who has been subject to much speculation this summer admitted that he wished to leave the club if a Premier League club made an offer.

Now, Middlesbrough’s worst nightmare has come true as another Premier League club has registered their interest in the player.

Wolves interested in the signing of Hayden Hackney

It has been reported by John Percy on social media that Wolves are now interested in the Middlesbrough midfielder.

It is understood that both West Ham and Ipswich Town are still keen on acquiring the services of Hackney before the close of the summer transfer market for the season ahead.

There is a belief that Hackney will only leave the club for a Premier League club, so this means that it would be a battle between Wolves and West Ham for the player.

It is believed that Middlesbrough are unwilling to lose Hackney this summer, with the player being seen as key to their campaign, especially after losing Finn Azaz to Southampton.

Difficult to replace Hayden Hackney

There is a reason that Hackney is so sought after by clubs in the Premier League and those who have ambitions of playing their football there next season; he is a quality player with potential.

Middlesbrough would love to have him to help them in their fight to achieve promotion this season; however, they may lose him due to his desire to play in the top flight.

Hackney may not get his wish, as it is late in the transfer window for Middlesbrough to find a replacement of the quality of the midfielder at a reasonable price.

It is a tough decision for Middlesbrough to make, as they could be handsomely paid for the services of Hackney and could use that money long-term for the development of the club and squad or use it short-term to replace the midfielder; however, they may opt to hold onto the player, as they can’t envisage either decision being beneficial to the team.
