Hull City are still awaiting the official announcement of their new manager, Sergej Jakirovic, but work is ongoing to get the club prepared for next season.
Jakirovic has Champions League pedigree, but he will need to hit the ground running if the Tigers are to improve on last season as they narrowly avoided relegation in gameweek 46.
Ruben Selles’ shock sacking was tough to take for supporters, and it has set the East Yorkshire outfit onto an unknown path heading into the new campaign with Cody Drameh’s future up for debate.
However, a new striker will be a key target for Hull and their eyes have turned to Germany in the hunt for a new number nine. Yet, they face competition from another Championship rival as they look for their second signing of the summer.
Hull City and Derby County register interest in Mahir Emreli
Gustavo Puerta’s loan deal was made permanent in May, with the midfielder officially joining the club on July 1. However, they are now looking abroad for their next addition.

Mahir Emreli is set to leave 2. Bundesliga club Nurnberg this summer, and according to a report from German outlet BILD, they are interested in securing the services of the 27-year-old.
However, they face competition from fellow Championship side Derby County. The Rams need to replace Jerry Yates after he returned to Swansea City following the end of his loan spell, and there is an open slot for the Azerbaijani forward at Pride Park.
Nevertheless, there is also interest from abroad with clubs in Türkiye and Saudi Arabia also putting Emreli on their shortlists. Yet, it is Germany where the striker wants to remain.

Mahir Emreli would be an excellent signing for the Tigers
Supporters are always keen to see strikers join, and Emreli would be no different if Hull are able to entice him to the MKM Stadium after an excellent 2024/25 campaign.
He scored 10 goals in 24 2. Bundesliga games last season, and at 27 he is at an excellent age to continue this form for another few years.
With plenty of Premier League free agents to choose from as well, the Tigers will be keeping their options open at this moment in time. But Emreli has also got Champions League experience and this is a huge pull for Derby and Hull.
Xavier Simons looks likely to leave in the coming weeks, and Jakirovic will be keen to get his squad in shape quickly for next season.
