Hull City are set to make a statement signing of one Leeds United midfielder, beating off competition from other clubs for his signature.

The Tigers have had to work under fee restrictions this summer, which has limited their ability to significantly bolster their squad for the 2025/26 Championship season.

Nonetheless, Hull City have shrewdly recruited to help Sergej Jakirovic achieve his ambitions, with Oli McBurnie being a notable arrival for the Tigers, having beaten the likes of Sheffield United, Ipswich Town and Swansea City for his signature.

Hull City now look set to sign one Leeds United talent, fending off opposition from other clubs.

Hull City set to sign Leeds United midfielder Darko Gyabi

On deadline day, Hull City, as have many other Championship clubs, have left it late to bring in additions ahead of the summer window slamming shut.

They have now made progress over one key target, with Hull City set to sign Leeds United midfielder Darko Gyabi, as revealed by Hull Daily Mail.

It has also been revealed, via Graham Smyth on X that it will be a permanent deal for the Tigers.

The Tigers have been described as being in ‘pole position’ to sign the 21-year-old in a temporary deal, who endured a spell at relegated Plymouth Argyle last season.

The youngster is expected to arrive at Cottingham, Hull City’s training ground, to complete the final touches ahead of a move to the MKM Stadium.

Hull City have fought off stiff competition in Gyabi, including two clubs in France.

Darko Gyabi stats

The 6’5 central midfielder suffered relegation last season with Plymouth Argyle, but still showed plenty of promise in the Championship, proving that he can make a significant difference in the second tier.

Last season, he notched 43 Championship appearances, playing predominantly as a defensive midfielder when Miron Muslic took over the troubled club.

He also played a crucial role in the historic 1-0 win in the FA Cup against Liverpool.

Gyabi also notably has experience playing for England U21.

The Leeds United, and former Man City youngster, boasts a wealth of potential, and there is every expectation that he can build successfully on his previous spell with Plymouth Argyle.

Whether Sergej Jakirovic opts to use him at defensive midfield, or further forward, he could help transform Hull City and provide what they may miss from Matt Crookes’ injury.
