Sergej Jakirovic urges change to the EFL transfer window as Hull City face potential exits

For Hull City, transfer deadline day is perhaps one that will see them more on the defence than attack, after their business was done relatively early this summer.

A transfer fee ban has made it difficult for the Tigers to bring in the players that they would have wanted to, with Louie Barry joining Sheffield United in July as a permanent move for the winger to the MKM Stadium stalled.

Now, Ivor Pandur is a target for Middlesbrough, with a potential swap deal involving Seny Dieng on the cards. However, if it was up to Sergej Jakirovic, there would be no chance of this happening.

It’s been almost three months since the transfer window first opened, and while there are some clubs set for a quiet deadline day, the Hull boss believes that squads should already be locked in place by this point of the summer.

Sergej Jakirovic explains what frustrates him about the transfer window

While the Tigers have struggled at times, others have made use of the last couple of weeks of the transfer window and have curated some excellent squads.

Nevertheless, for Jakirovic, there are some frustrations that the deadline is not sooner, and the Hull boss has outlined why it is a problem.

He said (via: Hull Live): “I don’t know why (it closes so late), we trained for two months with one team (and then it can all change). For me, this transfer period is too long. I think every manager shares the same opinion. It’s almost three-and-a-half months.

“I see that in England in the last week, everyone is so excited to do something. They’ve spent a couple of billion (pounds). I see it every day on television.

“I knew it before because I’ve been following English football for almost 20 years, so I know everything about English football, and they like to spend the money, the clubs. In a Croatian newspaper, they wrote that they spent 2.6 billion pounds until now and will see in these last couple of days what happens.”

Hull City have had a strong transfer window despite their problems

With just hours remaining in the window, there is no doubt that Hull would have liked to have brought in a few more players.

Limited to free signings and loanees, Jakirovic has done excellently with the restrictions placed on him, with Oli McBurnie the standout arrival.

Nevertheless, with the Championship season already four games in, the squads that started the campaign already look vastly different for a number of clubs.

Yet, it seems incredibly unlikely that there will be any change to the way the transfer window operates, unless it is agreed upon across Europe. But Hull may not have too many complaints about the signings that they have made in the last couple of months.
