Derby County spent the last few days of the summer transfer window finding ways to reduce their squad for the 2025/26 Championship campaign.

Ben Osborn joined Stockport County on deadline day, as the midfielder reunited with Ollie Norwood at Edgeley Park. Meanwhile, Jake Rooney joined up with his former teammate Conor Hourihane at Barnsley.

Yet, there has been a little bit of confusion surrounding Kenzo Goudmijn and his loan move to Go Ahead Eagles in the Eredivisie.

It emerged on Monday evening that the Dutchman was heading back to the Netherlands from Derby, but with no official announcement, many have wondered what is happening with the deal. However, there is an update.

Kenzo Goudmijn is in Go Ahead Eagles’ UEFA Europa League squad

The Dutch window did not shut until Tuesday evening, allowing time for Go Ahead Eagles to finalise the deal.

However, two days later, neither club has acknowledged that a move has taken place, and supporters on both sides of the English Channel may have been concerned about the situation.

Nonetheless, with GA Eagles playing in the UEFA Europa League this season, Goudmijn has been called up to the squad and can be found on the UEFA website.

Therefore, one can assume that a deal was agreed upon and completed in time between the two clubs, meaning that the Rams have completed their work in the transfer window.

Derby County still have one player too many in their squad

Many hoped that a formation change would help unlock Goudmijn in 2025/26, but he struggled in the early weeks of the campaign and a move away was for the best.

Considering the number of new arrivals at Derby this summer, it was also a necessary decision, and John Eustace has a huge decision to make in terms of his 25-man squad, as currently, he has 26 players.

Therefore, one will have to miss out, and at this moment, it seems likely that Curtis Nelson will be the one.

The centre-back has been out injured since the start of the year, and with no real timeline on his return, it makes sense for Sondre Langas, who would make the best Rams XI, to find his way into the squad over him.
