Middlesbrough have made a perfect start to the Championship campaign under their new manager, Rob Edwards.

The club have got off to their best start in the Championship for 31 years, with that campaign ending in a title come its conclusion.

Middlesbrough are taking shape under Rob Edwards after a busy few weeks in the summer transfer window; however, the club are set to be busy right up to the close of the market at 7pm on September 1.

The club are hoping they can secure the deal for David Strelec, who has made his feelings clear on where he wants to be for the approaching season.

Meanwhile, the club bid farewell to Finn Azaz last week, as he left for Southampton; however, there is one player the club appear to be happy to allow to leave.

Dan Barlaser is free to leave Middlesbrough

Rob Edwards has had time to assess the squad he inherited from Michael Carrick, with the former Luton Town manager adding to it while allowing other players to leave, according to Teesside Live.

This has seemed to work out fantastically so far for Edwards in charge of Middlesbrough, and he is not seemingly done shaping his team.

While he is hoping to keep hold of Hayden Hackney, there is a belief that Middlesbrough are happy for Dan Barlaser to leave Teesside this summer.

Dan Barlaser is in the final year of his Boro contract after signing from Rotherham United in January 2023 under Michael Carrick; however, he is yet to feature this season under Edwards.

Michael Carrick on Dan Barlaser

The former manager of Middlesbrough was a huge fan of the midfielder, whom he signed from Rotherham United.

Newcastle-born Michael Carrick brought in Barlaser, from Gateshead, in January 2023 to help in their attempts to achieve promotion, and the midfielder had several impressive performances; however, he is now seen as surplus to requirements, with the hope at the club that they can get a fee for him.

Carrick spoke about his talent last season after a great game against QPR with the Northern Echo, despite falling down the pecking order at the club.

He said: “He’s fantastic, Dan.

“He’s one of the personalities in the group. Every day in training he’s smiling and joking; he trains well, his attitude is good, and his quality is obvious. He’s a big part of the group and has a massive influence.

“I’m really pleased with everything he’s doing. Yeah, he probably wants to play a little bit more; the boys who have played have played ever so well in there. That’s part of being in a good squad.

“But I’m delighted with him. The way he goes about it every day and the way he handles himself with his character and personality is spot on.”
