Rob Edwards has guided Middlesbrough to their best start to a Championship campaign in 31 years, as they have made it four wins from as many matches, with the Teesside club going up as champions that campaign.

Fans will hope that can be repeated again this season, as Middlesbrough hope to make a return to the Premier League for the first time since 2017.

Middlesbrough were impressive in their 1-0 win over Sheffield United, as the Blades and Ruben Selles suffered their worst start to a campaign outside the top flight for 30 years.

While there may be an argument that the current Middlesbrough squad don’t need any more additions, Rob Edwards will have excited fans with his latest comments about transfers.

Middlesbrough have been linked to striker David Strelec for a sustained period throughout the summer, with the deal finally looking like it will go through, as reported in Teesside Live.

It’s understood that a deal is not yet quite agreed between Middlesbrough and Slovan Bratislava for the Slovakian to move to the club, particularly as his current club were eliminated from the Europa League.

When asked about the potential deal after their victory over Sheffield United, Rob Edwards remained coy, as he does not like to speak about deals until they are confirmed.

However, he did say: “We can’t say too much at the moment. There might be an element of truth in that, but I can’t say too much right now.”

Middlesbrough’s need for attacking additions

Rob Edwards lost his creative option in Finn Azaz, as he moved to Southampton for a reported fee that could rise to £15 million.

The Republic of Ireland international has explained exactly why he made the move, with the midfielder addressing that it was to earn promotion to the Premier League, which Middlesbrough may make a challenge for and stop the Saints from achieving it.

While Middlesbrough looked great at times in their victory against Sheffield United, there was a lack of a clinical edge, despite Tommy Conway’s finish, and Strelec would help solve that issue.
