Charlton Athletic have a mammoth task on their hands if they are to stay up this season, and Nathan Jones has just been dealt a blow in the transfer market with his latest target.
A phenomenal run of form last term saw Charlton climb the League One table and cement their place in the play-offs. In the end, the Addicks were triumphant with a win over Leyton Orient in the final to return to the Championship.
With a fairly thin squad already, and only a few new signings for Charlton so far this summer, there’s definitely work to be done.
Nathan Jones will be hoping his latest piece of business works out in the end, as Charlton have been knocked back in their approach for a Japanese star.

Charlton Athletic must buy Shinnosuke Fukuda rather than loan
As per a report from the Daily Mail, Charlton have made an approach to sign Shinnosuke Fukuda who plays for J1 League side Kyoto Sanga.
However, with Charlton preferring a loan move with an option to buy, there has been some disagreement about the nature of the deal and the bid has been rejected.
Apparently, Kyoto Sanga would rather sell the right back outright this summer. The Japanese outfit have made it clear that Charlton will need to activate Fukuda’s release clause if they are to sign him.
It is thought the 24-year-old is well aware he needs to be playing regularly in Europe if he is to take the next step in his international career ahead of next year’s World Cup.
Charlton had moved on to Fukuda after interest in Hibernian right back Lewis Miller came to nothing.

There are other right-back options for Nathan Jones to look at
If Jones decides against making the permanent move for Fukuda, there are plenty of other options Charlton can explore this summer.
Free agents still available in the Championship include the likes of Anfernee Dijksteel, who was released by Middlesbrough last month. The Suriname international would offer a great level of experience for the Addicks, which could prove crucial to their hopes of staying in the division.
Meanwhile, Bali Mumba is a wanted man, and Plymouth Argyle will find it hard to keep hold of him. Charlton should consider a move for the 23-year-old, though he would cost them a fair bit given the level of attention he’s attracted already.
