Ruben Selles is keen to add another forward to his side, but it would require COH Sports and Sheffield United to meet one ‘silly’ demand to get a deal done.
Sheffield United have kicked into action in the summer transfer window following a challenging start to the 2025/26 Championship season under new boss Ruben Selles.
It has been a poor start to the campaign under the Spaniard, who has lost his first four Championship games, with the Blades sitting rock-bottom of the second tier.
They have already turned towards the experienced striker signing of Danny Ings on a free transfer, and the Blades are now looking towards League One for their next potential recruit. However, such a deal may not be possible without COH Sports doing one ‘silly’ thing.

Sheffield United reignite interest in Cardiff City gem Cian Ashford
It has been reported, via Darren Witcoop on X, that Sheffield United are keen on Cardiff City youngster Cian Ashford.
Sheffield United have shown previous interest in the 20-year-old, however Witcoop has suggested that the Bluebirds ‘insist’ that the forward is ‘not for sale’.
The player’s stance is that he is not rushing for a move away from the Welsh capital, and a move will only be possible if Sheffield United decide to offer ‘silly money’ to Cardiff City to attain his services.
Ashford has been a key player for Cardiff so far in their 2025/26 League One campaign, starting four out of five games on the wing.

Ruben Selles has already been told why Cian Ashford would be a top signing
Sheffield United fans may already be aware of Cian Ashford’s qualities after he scored the winning goal in the FA Cup at Bramall Lane in January in a 1-0 win for the Welsh side.
The youngster dispatched a coolly-hit shot past the grasp of Adam Davies in between the sticks for Sheffield United, and his performance was handed rave reviews from his former boss and teammate.
Describing the youngster after the win against Sheffield United, former Cardiff City boss Omer Riza said, via the BBC: “Ash is excellent. He listens, he learns, he wants to do well.
“He gets disappointed at times, which is good but bad at times as well because he lets it get to his performance.
“I’ve said from the start of the season, Cian has got a lot of potential. We all believe in him – he needs to believe in himself more. I’m delighted for him.”
Former Bluebirds man Joe Ralls also showed his admiration for the attacker, having said: “He’s been brilliant for us, really stepped up. He had a little spell out of the team, he’s worked on his game and he’s come back with a point to prove.
“That’s the real Cian Ashford and he’s kicking on now. That was a really well-taken goal.”
Bringing in yet another forward may not be the priority for Sheffield United at this moment, but signing Ashford would be an exciting prospect, and another sign that COH Sports are building for the future.
