Sheffield Wednesday are in desperate need of new signings this summer.
Although Max Lowe will now stay at the club, Nathaniel Chalobah’s injury has left Henrik Pedersen’s squad even lighter, as the Owls prepare for Carabao Cup action on Wednesday evening.
The South Yorkshire outfit are off the EFL’s embargo list, but remain limited to signing free agents and loanees, meaning they will target young Premier League stars ahead of deadline day.
However, alongside other Championship clubs, Sheffield Wednesday have been beaten to the signature of a talented Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder.

Sheffield Wednesday one of several Championship sides to miss out on Brighton youngster
As per information from our Chief Football Correspondent, Graeme Bailey, EFL Analysis can confirm a number of Championship clubs have missed out on the signing of Brighton starlet Joshua Duffus.

Duffus, who turned down the chance to remain at Brighton, has opted to move abroad, joining Ligue 2 giants St Etienne.
We are told he has agreed a four-year deal, having shunned interest from Marseille, Eintracht Frankfurt and Bayer Leverkusen.
There was also strong interest in England with both the City Group and BlueCo keen on him, whilst we can confirm that Norwich, Swansea, Preston, Hull and Sheffield Wednesday all showed an interest. However, the England youth international opted for a move to the continent instead.

Joshua Duffus has been one to watch at Brighton
The striker has come up through the ranks at Brighton in the last few years, and made his debut for the senior team in the 2023/24 campaign in the Europa League.
However, it has been for the U21s where he has shone, scoring five goals in nine appearances in the Premier League 2 last season, while also registering three assists.
Duffus has also played out on the wing in the past for the Seagulls’ youth teams, but it is down the middle where he feels most comfortable and this will be a frustration for Sheffield Wednesday as they are in need of more cover in the forward positions.
Nevertheless, it is an impossible battle against sides like Saint Etienne at the moment, with the French side able to offer four-year deals and competitive wages in comparison to the Owls.
