Will Still will hate Arne Slot’s latest Alexander Isak comments ahead of Liverpool vs Southampton

Southampton are set for a break from Championship action on Tuesday evening, as they face Premier League champions Liverpool in the Carabao Cup.

It’s not been the best of starts to the season for the Saints, and they were convincingly beaten by Hull City at the MKM Stadium on Saturday afternoon – a result that dropped the Hampshire outfit down to 19th in the Championship.

Will Still is already under pressure from supporters, and he may feel as though time is starting to run out already if this poor start to the campaign continues.

With Liverpool up next for Southampton, the situation is looking even bleaker for those at St. Mary’s, and now Arne Slot has revealed more on his team selection ahead of the clash.

Arne Slot plans on starting Alexander Isak vs Southampton

Alexander Isak joined the Reds in the summer, leaving Newcastle United after a controversial transfer saga that saw him refuse to play for the Magpies.

However, with Hugo Ekitike’s spectacular form, the Sweden international has had to bide his time. But, after being asked if Tuesday was the perfect time to give the likes of Isak minutes, Liverpool boss Arne Slot explained that Southampton may have to deal with the striker.

He said (via: liverpoolfc.com): “Yeah, we can go through all of them – Wata Endo and a few more.

“These are the players that need a game and we’re happy that we have one. If we wouldn’t have had one, we probably would have arranged a friendly in this week for these players because they need to play games as well to keep them ready whenever we need them.

“We’ve used quite a lot in the last three games because we thought we needed to keep this energy throughout all the three games – but not all of them. And the few we haven’t used, it’s definitely the perfect moment for them to get playing time.”

Liverpool have won eight of the last nine meetings

Still knows that this battle is more than likely a step too far for his Southampton side, and this is Liverpool’s game to lose.

The Saints’ main focus is on mounting a push up the Championship table in the coming weeks, and it is clear to see why with history not exactly on their side for this clash.

Liverpool have won all but one of their last nine games against Southampton, with the only outlier in that time a 4-4 draw in the Premier League.

Despite this, the Saints were successful over the Merseyside team in the Carabao Cup in 2017, beating them 2-0 over two legs to secure their place in the final, although Southampton were ultimately beaten by Manchester United at Wembley.
