What a year it’s been for Birmingham City, with the club going from relegation in the Championship to a genuine top six contender.

The work that Tom Wagner has put in over the course of that time has been clear to see, and he deserves plenty of plaudits, although many may have expected Blues to spend more in the summer transfer window.

Nevertheless, they are currently 10th in the Championship, and while they were beaten 2-0 by Leicester City last Friday, there have been plenty of positives to take from the season as a whole so far.

Yet, with it being the international break, Birmingham, as a club have been looking back on the last year, and supporters have picked out their favourite moment.

Birmingham City fans share favourite memory from the last year

The last 12 months will go down in history for Blues, and while they have not had the success at the top of English football that they would have wanted recently, the rot has ended at St. Andrew’s.

Fans have a team to be proud of, and while promotion is of course going to be incredibly fondly thought of, there was another moment that captured the hearts of Birmingham supporters.

There was agreement from other fans, with one saying: “Either Iwata’s thunderblast against Newcastle, or being in the away end at Blackburn and them last 5-10mins of the game. Both unreal.”

While another wrote: “I think Iwata;s goal or [Scott] Wright’s last minute goal [vs Wigan Athletic].”

Of course, there were some obvious shouts for promotion: “Lifting that League One title and Peterborough away.”

As one Birmingham fan looked back at the closing chapter of an icon: “Jukey’s last goal in front of the Tilton- legend!”

Tomoki Iwata scored one of the great St. Andrew’s goals vs Newcastle United

For that moment that Birmingham fans adore, we have to go back to February, as Newcastle United made the trip to St. Andrew’s for an FA Cup fourth-round tie.

It was a game that saw the League One outfit prove their worth, as Ethan Laird opened the scoring inside the first minute, before Joe Willock and Callum Wilson gave the Magpies the lead.

Yet, there was to be another twist heading into half-time, as the ball sat incredibly kindly for Tomoki Iwata who fired in on the volley to send St. Andrew’s into a state of pure delirium.

While Newcastle did find a winner, it was an incredible showing from the League One record-breakers, and Birmingham fans still hold that goal close to their hearts.
