Birmingham City could be the big story of the Championship in 2025/26, with the big-spenders set to make waves in the second tier.
Despite relegation in 2023/24, it was always likely Birmingham would take League One by storm thanks to the backing of Tom Wagner and Tom Brady.
Suffice it to say, the Blues did not disappoint, with Chris Davies guiding Birmingham to the League One title and an EFL record points tally of 111 points across the campaign.
Now, Birmingham are ready to launch an assault on the Championship, and we’re led to believe they do not intend to stick around for long.

EFL fans predict a top six finish for Birmingham City
With big ambitions for the season ahead, we asked fans across the EFL to cast a vote regarding Birmingham’s fate for the 2025/26 Championship campaign.
Of the 215 votes received, 14% (30 votes) believe Birmingham can secure a top-two spot and get automatic promotion next season.
A further 44.2% (95 votes) backed Birmingham to finish in the play-off places, which would still be a massive achievement for the Blues having just come up from League One.
Meanwhile, 32.1% of voters (or 69 votes) have Birmingham down for a midtable finish, and just 9.8% (21 votes) predict the Blues will be involved in a relegation battle.
Among the replies, one voter said: “I think they’ll get top six, and I think they’ll go up via that route, too. They’re targeting the right players already, and we know they’re not going to be afraid to spend whatever it takes to get promoted. Jay Stansfield will explode, too.”
While Jay Stansfield has been praised of late, there are others who have doubts, with one reply stating: “Can’t see Stansfield working as well as most think. Never know but don’t really see it. Seven penalties in his 19 goals last year and for the money they spent on him – it has to work this year.”

Birmingham City need to secure more signings to guarantee success
Birmingham have confirmed transfers in the form of Alfons Sampsted, Taylor Gardner-Hickman, and Phil Neumann already this summer, but they need more.
A dream transfer window for Birmingham fans would see the likes of Che Adams and Demarai Gray return to the club to give them more firepower, while the expected arrival of James Beadle would be a great acquisition, too.
They’re also looking at signing Craig Dawson, and are thought to be leading the race for Tommy Doyle from Wolves, too.
It’s one thing being linked with these players and another getting them through the door. But, given the financial might of the Blues’ owners, we can’t imagine them having too much trouble making the necessary signings to help Chris Davies guide the club back to the big time.
