Blackburn Rovers fans will be fuming if 69-year record is broken this weekend vs Norwich City

This weekend’s clash between Blackburn Rovers and Norwich City will be an interesting one, and if either team were to lose the game they’d register an unwanted record.

It’s been a tricky start to the campaign for both sides, with Blackburn Rovers only just picking up their first win last weekend against Hull City.

Norwich City, meanwhile, have lost two on the bounce and fans are now furious that they’ve sold Marcelino Nunez to rivals Ipswich Town.

It should make for an intriguing game this weekend, and while our Championship predictions back a Norwich win, both sides will be absolutely desperate to avoid defeat for unique reasons.

Blackburn Rovers need to protect home record that’s stood since 1956

We know Blackburn haven’t beaten Norwich at home in 13 years, but they do have a record that’s been intact for 69 years to protect this weekend.

Rovers have not lost their two opening home matches in a campaign since 1956/57, when they lost to Lincoln City (3-4) and West Ham (0-2) in back-to-back games at the end of August.

This term, they lost to Birmingham City earlier this month, and now face the prospect of breaking that longstanding record if they fall to defeat against Norwich on Saturday.

Valerien Ismael will be buoyed by the performance he saw last weekend against Hull, but will now need his players to replicate that at Ewood Park.

Norwich City have their own unwanted record to avoid

After losing to Middlesbrough at the weekend and crashing out of the Carabao Cup to Southampton in midweek, Liam Manning offered a guarantee that things will improve.

Manning will also want revenge on Blackburn for a heavy defeat he suffered at Ewood Park with Bristol City last season.

But, historically speaking, Norwich have their own record to worry about. They’ve lost two of their three opening games this season, but the Canaries have not lost three out of four at the start of a campaign since 2000/01.

Can Manning stop the slide and avoid entering the Norwich City record books for all the wrong reasons? Let’s see what Saturday brings, shall we?
