Burnley and Leeds United are both eyeing the Championship title this weekend, with Scott Parker and Daniel Farke’s side locked on 97 points each.
Both sides can be equally excited as they are concerned about what is to come next season, especially given the widening gap between the Championship and Premier League, which Paul Merson has offered his advice on to the promoted duo.
| Position | Team | Played MP | Won W | Drawn D | Lost L | For GF | Against GA | Diff GD | Points Pts |
| 1 | 45 | 28 | 13 | 4 | 93 | 29 | 64 | 97 | |
| 2 | 45 | 27 | 16 | 2 | 66 | 15 | 51 | 97 | |
| 3 | 45 | 28 | 7 | 10 | 62 | 35 | 27 | 89 |
However, there is still a title to win first, with Leeds travelling to Devon to play Plymouth Argyle and Burnley facing Millwall at Turf Moor. Both can reach 100 points in the process as well, making for an extremely exciting end of a magnificent season for both.
Promotion has secured both a huge figure in terms of the financial windfall, but it also handed more money back to Premier League sides via the shared cost of parachute payments. That is next season’s concern, but 2024/25’s iteration of the Championship must now have a winner.

Plymouth offer Burnley hope over Leeds in final day title race
Leeds have broken records this season at Elland Road, and could break more on final day, while Burnley will be eyeing yet another clean sheet record at home to Millwall. Pundits have even praised the increasingly more ‘mental’ defensive work of Burnley in recent days after thumping QPR 5-0.
They are both going out in style, having secured 5-0 and 4-0 wins already since promotion was confirmed last week. Burnley are unbeaten in 32 league games and Leeds have also won the last five in a row as well.
Final day will decide plenty in the second tier and Farke has also outlined the need for a ‘perfect away performance’ against Plymouth previously, which could be the same again here for Leeds after the latest reveal.
NTT20’s EFL expert and pundit George Elek has detailed how impressive Plymouth have been at Home Park against the top half of the table. That is obviously of concern to Leeds but a boost for Burnley’s title hopes.
As shown above, Argyle’s record against the Top 10 at home this season is played nine, with six wins, two draws, and just one loss. In the process, they have scored 22 goals as well.
The silver lining for Leeds is that Plymouth will not be a part of the 2025/26 Championship line-up and will be relegated due to their vastly inferior goal difference, thus Miron Muslic’s men may perhaps be lacking some motivation on their way down to League One.
Whichever side fails to win the title will set a new Championship record on Saturday, with the points totals reaching a, frankly, ridiculous figure for second place.

Millwall are an extremely stern test for Burnley
The other aspect within all of this is Millwall, with Alex Neil’s side also in play-off contention. Millwall are one of just two sides to beat Burnley this season, while they have also got the better of both Leeds and Sheffield United as well.
Their recent form and late charge to the play-offs has to be of concern to Burnley, even though Parker’s men are playing with plenty of freedom and able to express themselves. The opposite is true of Plymouth against a Leeds side playing better than ever and scoring 10 goals in their last two games.
Millwall have won eight of the last 12 games, although one of their defeats was away to Leeds. That perhaps highlights that they are not infallible against the top sides, despite some major scalps this season.
