Cardiff City will ‘obviously’ be interested in sacked Championship manager, says Sky Sports pundit

Cardiff City’s search for a new manager is ongoing, and they have been backed to show interest in one former Championship boss.

Erol Bulut and Omer Riza were both sacked over the course of the 2024/25 season as Cardiff City suffered relegation to League One.

Aaron Ramsey has called for change at the club after a brief spell in interim charge of the Welsh outfit.

A new boss is thought to be incoming, with EFL Analysis learning earlier this week that Michael Beale is likely to be appointed Cardiff manager.

However, one Sky Sports pundit thinks that the club will be interested in appointing another permanent boss.

Cardiff City will be ‘interested’ in Ruben Selles

Hull City fans were furious earlier this week when it was confirmed by their club that they had sacked Ruben Selles.

It was understood that the Tigers’ hierarchy were not happy with their run at the end of the 2024/25 season, which saw just two wins picked up in nine.

However, speaking over the weekend, Sky Sports pundit Lee Hendrie thinks that Cardiff will now be interested in appointing Selles as their new manager.

He told Football League World: “Cardiff are obviously going to be interested in Ruben Selles. It wouldn’t surprise me now if they end up pushing and pursuing that deal now he’s available.

“I think he’d be a great fit for the football club. Cardiff need a rebuild, they need a revamp, and some fresh new ideas.

“It would be a fresh start for the football club and also for Selles too. So I think that the pair would make a really good fit.”

Ruben Selles’ Hull City record

Hull’s decision to sack Selles has been questioned, with blame for their recent decline instead put on the board, rather than the manager himself.

He took charge of the Yorkshire outfit on December 7, 2024, with the club having ended the previous season in seventh place, three points outside of the play-off places.

There was a big drop-off in 2024/25, with Hull only staying in the Championship thanks to their goal difference.

All told, Selles oversaw 28 matches as the Tigers’ manager, winning nine, drawing seven, and losing 12.
