Hull City fans swarm social media to rage over ‘ridiculous’ Ruben Selles sack decision

The managerial merry-go-round is going to continue in the Championship as Hull City are set to part company with Ruben Selles.

After their final day draw against Portsmouth that kept them in the Championship on goal difference, it quickly emerged that Acun Ilicali was considering sacking Ruben Selles.

Supporters were annoyed that their celebrations were blighted by this potential decision, remembering what happened when Ilicali sacked Rosenior after Hull finished seventh in the second tier last May.

Sadly, fans knew what was on the horizon when it was revealed that Ilicali was set to meet Selles in Turkey, with the owner deciding his future.

Their worst fears have now been confirmed, with the Tigers set to sack the Spaniard after only joining in December, becoming their third casualty in the space of 12 months.

Hull City fans are enraged as Acun Ilicali set to sack Ruben Selles

As reported by BBC Radio Humberside’s Mike White, Selles is going to be relieved of his duties as Hull boss. Worryingly, though, there is no one lined up to replace the 41-year-old.

Taking to X to react to this news, Hull fans were unsurprisingly enraged over the decision, with some labelling it ‘ridiculous’, while others have called for Ilicali to exit the MKM Stadium.

“A club in free fall and out of control. What a ridiculous decision,” one fan wrote.

“Ridiculous. We’re now Watford. Terrible decision,” another commented while a third exclaimed: “This is not a great move at all! We need some stability!”

“You’d think we were owned by a game show owner,” someone else posted.

“Acun are you genuinely serious,” a sixth replied while another said: “What a crazy club we have become #Watfordindisguise.”

Ilicali is losing the Hull City fanbase

In the past 12 months, Ilicali has made some ridiculous decisions to make fans question whether he’s the right man to lead the club towards success.

Firstly, he axed Rosenior, who is now guiding Strasbourg towards Champions League football, while the Tigers were made to suffer under the tenure of Tim Walter.

Supporters were pleased when the German was sacked in December, replacing him with Selles, who has largely become a popular figure among the fans.

Hull are crying out for stability and that requires keeping the Spaniard, yet Ilicali has other ideas, with the Yorkshire side set to appoint their fourth manager in the space of a year.

Frustratingly, there isn’t even anyone in the pipeline to replace Selles, which suggests Hull could be in for another summer of chaos.
