Wrexham owner Rob McElhenney has sent a message on social media ahead of the upcoming Championship season.
The automatic promotion race in League One has been settled as both Wrexham and Birmingham City are confirmed to be in the Championship next season.
Wrexham have now notched back-to-back-to-back promotions since their takeover from Hollywood A-listers Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, who have provided an insurmountable financial boost to the club that has sailed through the lower EFL leagues, having achieved automatic promotion in both.
Following their promotion to the Championship, co-owner made one comment ahead of the 2025/26 season, one that could suggest he is confident of his side potentially surprising a few in the upcoming campaign.

Wrexham co-owner Rob McElhenney’s social media statement ahead of upcoming Championship season
Wrexham, this season endured a widely successful campaign as Phil Parkinson’s side strided through League One, where they will finish 2nd in the league, only behind the triumphant Birmingham City.
Following a third successive promotion, it would be understandable for supporters to get carried away and suggest that a fourth could be on the cards next season, especially those across the pond who are maybe less accustomed to watching regular Championship football.
It also seems that, based on McElhenney’s recent comment on social media, that ‘consolidation’ won’t be considered next season either, despite the huge step up in quality in teams across the league.
On X, McElhenney said: “If I’m being honest I don’t even know what the word “consolidation” means.”

Wrexham fans might be in for a surprise ahead of 2025/26 Championship season
Wrexham’s successes in the EFL so far have been admirable, albeit have been catered with serious financial backing from the higher-ups. However, the step-up to Championship level will certainly be seismic, even for their proportions.
Unlike in League One and Two, Wrexham won’t stand head and shoulders above the rest in regards to financial freedom, and the fact that many within their ranks are past their prime, they may need to add several players to their side this summer.
There would be no issues with Wrexham settling for ‘consolidation’ this season, a mid-table finish would be brilliant for the Welsh side as they come up to the Championship, albeit may not follow the narrative of the show-stopping previous seasons.
