Leicester City appear to be making progress in their search for a new manager with Chris Wilder now on the final shortlist, and fans are pretty happy with that potential outcome.
It’s been a pretty messy 12 months for Leicester City, who suffered a dismal campaign in the Premier League resulting in relegation back to the Championship.
Off the field, the club has been frustratingly silent on a plethora of matters, most notably the managerial situation heading into the new season.
It took a long time for the Foxes to part ways with Ruud van Nistelrooy, but amid all the speculation and confusion, a final shortlist has been drawn up for the Leicester vacancy.
Chris Wilder has emerged as a contender for the role after his departure from Sheffield United, and it seems the former Blades boss would be a popular choice.

What are Leicester City fans saying about Chris Wilder?
While Danny Rohl and Sean Dyche have been linked with the post for a while now, there’s a good chance Wilder will end up in the dugout at the King Power Stadium.
There are concerns that these three managers are so different in their style and approach that the Leicester hierarchy may not know exactly what they want. But, for the fans, the prospect of Wilder taking over would deliver two big improvements on the previous regime.
Taking to Twitter/X, fans voiced their support for Wilder. One said, “He has the experience we desperately need,” while another added, “I think he would be good for us! He would get a tune out of the players and bring discipline when needed. He’s got a lot of experience… Old school.”
That idea of a no-nonsense approach, which harks back to the era of Nigel Pearson’s spell at Leicester, is appealing to many, while Wilder’s record of success also has plenty excited.
One supporter said: “I’d take him over Rohl if I’m honest. He’s old school, can bring discipline to a squad full of egos, knows the league, and kept Sheffield United in the Premier League for a season. If we manage to go up by a miracle, he needs to be backed.”
Another replied: “He got Sheffield United to the brink of promotion and they started with minus points. If they had started level he’d have got them up.”
Blades fans have been vocal, too, suggesting Leicester would be wise to appoint Wilder. One United supporter said, “Very good Championship manager, as his records show. Some results last season may have not been entirely ‘earned’ (dodgy performances) but that’s down to gelling a whole team together in a space of a few weeks.”
Another added: “He has a long history of success, he can play good football or direct football, not wedded to one style. Will do what’s needed to win with the squad he has. I think you’ll love him if he’s the manager.”

Chris Wilder’s managerial record versus Sean Dyche and Danny Rohl
There will always be pros and cons to Chris Wilder coming in, but if we look at the cold, hard facts, he does have a brilliant managerial record.
Across 743 matches in the EFL and Premier League, Wilder has won 340 matches, generating a 45.7% win rate through his career. He also has five promotions to his name, including two to the Premier League.
Comparing that to Sean Dyche, the former Burnley and Everton manager has overseen 557 games with a 35% win rate. However, it’s worth noting that he has spent a lot longer coaching in the top flight, where games will naturally be harder to win.
Dyche also has a Championship title to his name, which accounts for one of his two promotions from the second tier.
| Statistic | Chris Wilder | Sean Dyche | Danny Rohl |
| Games | 743 | 557 | 89 |
| Wins | 340 | 195 | 34 |
| Win % | 45.7% | 35.0% | 38.2% |
| Promotions | 5 | 2 | 0 |
| Trophies | 2 | 1 | 0 |
Rohl is much less experienced, which is understandable given his age. But, the Sheffield Wednesday coach does have a fairly impressive trophy cabinet already, albeit as an assistant manager; he was part of Bayern Munich’s setup for a Champions League win, two Bundesliga titles, the DFB-Pokal victory, as well as a Club World Cup win and the UEFA Super Cup victory.
As a manager, Rohl has overseen 89 games with the Owls, registering a 38.2% win rate. It should be noted that Rohl has achieved relative success with a shoestring budget and very difficult circumstances, including a miraculous survival effort in 2023/24.
