Thanks to Burnley’s win over Sheffield United, both the Clarets and Leeds United are confirmed as the top two in the Championship this season and can look forward to Premier League football next year.

Leeds did their part earlier on Bank Holiday Monday, with a massive 6-0 win over Stoke City at Elland Road all-but confirming promotion for the Whites.

Star striker Joel Piroe was the man of the moment there, bagging four goals and breaking lots of records in the process.

But, for Leeds all attention turned to Turf Moor to check if Burnley would confirm their promotion by beating the Blades, and they duly delivered.

Daniel Farke’s post-match comments as Leeds United secure promotion

Leeds United have now registered their best points tally, surpassing that of Marcelo Bielsa in 2019/20. Naturally, Daniel Farke is delighted to be going up, and he told Sky Sports just how happy he is with his players for getting through a tough period just a few weeks ago.

He said: “How the lads have handled the last few weeks during this crunch-time period when there’s lots of pressure on them.

“The way we have performed in the last few weeks, the spirit and quality of the performances and the consistency of the results, especially with the clean sheets, has been second to none.

“It’s really amazing and all the credit goes to the boys for the way they have handled this situation, not just the quality of the performance, but the mentality and spirit has been unbelievable.”

At the end of March and start of April, it looked like Leeds would crumble under the pressure of expectations, but they turned things around and got back on track quickly to get the job done.

Ethan Ampadu wants the Championship title now

While the promotion celebrations will go on for a few days, and that is the big task done for Leeds now, there is still the matter of the Championship title to sort out.

Discussing that with Sky Sports, Leeds star Ethan Ampadu said: “Very proud. A lot of positivity. We still have another target but we will enjoy this tonight. Then we will try and do the full thing.

“We didn’t know what was going to happen. This is a little boost but we have two more games. I can’t sum it up. A lot of waiting around but it has gone our way. Really enjoyable moment.

“Burnley probably are too [winning the title]. Hopefully today gives us a big boost. Two more to go, let’s try and do it. We will enjoy today.”

Burnley are indeed aiming for the title now, with Scott Parker insisting his side have not finished the job yet. With two games to go, it will be fascinating to see which of these two incredibly impressive teams comes out on top.
