Dejphon Chansiri decision branded as ‘lunacy’ as he fails to grasp one thing at Sheffield Wednesday

Sheffield Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri has once again been called out for his mishandling of the club’s current situation, with huge contrasts being drawn between himself and the current Owls squad.

Dejphon Chansiri’s ownership of Sheffield Wednesday has hit a wall in recent months, with the majority of the fanbase turning their back on the chairman.

Following a summer of widespread concern and discontent, which saw players and staff receive wages late, whilst several first-teamers departed the club, the club has been left in serious need of repair.

Sheffield Wednesday’s first-team squad have significantly depleted in numbers, leading to new Owls boss Henrik Pedersen turning towards a selection of youngsters, as well as the handful of players who remain at the club from last season.

As for the results and performances on the pitch, Sheffield Wednesday have shown hope, belief, and a brilliant ability to compete in the Championship despite the circumstances.

Sheffield Wednesday first team unity strikes a stark difference to Dejphon Chansiri’s ownership

Sheffield Wednesday have notched one point in the Championship so far, and it was fully deserved after a phenomenal second-half showing away at a money-rolled Wrexham side.

The performance came about because of the unity within the squad, with all players clubbing together in what is a challenging situation for all involved.

Whilst this has created an unbreakable bond amongst the squad, EFL expert Justin Peach has reflected on how this proves that Dejphon Chansiri ‘never understood’ football.

“The worst thing for me in all of that is seeing the squad as a family,” said Peach via the Second Tier Podcast. “While it’s quite wholesome, it just shows he never understood how football as a business works.

“Maybe even business, because ultimately, if you’re in the Championship and, unless you’re plunging money into it time and time again to offset your losses, you have to sell players to reinvest back into the squad and go again.

“It’s a constant rotating strategy and he never he never he never once settled in. I know Chris Powell came in and said recently that there’s no board structure at the club. It’s just him. Obviously, the Michael Smith one that came out with Wrexham, he just immediately put the price up of Michael Smith and the deal to Wrexham fell through.

“It’s just complete football lunacy and it’s exactly why Sheffield Wednesday are in the position they’re in is because of this.”

The Owls have already defied expectations this season

Ahead of the 2025/26 Championship season, there were discussions on whether Sheffield Wednesday can even be competitive this season.

After the first team was stripped apart, while the prospect of signings was minimal, many had understandably written them off, but there is optimism to take from their opening games.

It was a difficult result to take at home to Stoke City, with the Potters winning 3-0 at Hillsborough, but the marginal defeat against Leicester City, as well as the stalemate against Wrexham truly showed the quality that this Sheffield Wednesday side carry.

Sheffield Wednesday have gone into this season with no expectations, and that appears to be working in their favour.
