EFL expert thinks Hull City star could transform Sergej Jakirovic’s side, he only played 10 games in 24/25

Hull City have one gem who has been predicted to completely transform Sergej Jakirovic’s side despite an injury-ridden 2024/25 campaign.

Hull City are preparing for what could be a challenging 2025/26 Championship season under their current circumstances.

The Tigers were hit with a fee restriction, which has severely affected their ability to bring in players this summer, although Acun Ilicali is confident that Hull City’s ban can be lifted.

Under both Tim Walter and Ruben Selles, Hull City particularly struggled in front of goal, which has made this summer much more challenging due to the difficulty of signing a competent forward on a free deal.

However, Sergej Jakirovic’s side will be boosted by the return of one player, who will feel like a new signing for Hull.

Mohamed Belloumi predicted to play a key role for Hull City

Hull City’s recruitment ahead of the 2024/25 season was disastrous to say the least – the attacking trio of Jaden Philogene, Liam Delap, and Fabio Carvalho were insufficiently replaced, which caused the Tigers to have major issues in front of goal last term.

They did have a shining light in Mo Belloumi; however, his season was significantly hampered by an ACL injury that put him out of action after just 10 Championship appearances. Belloumi, alongside Liam Millar, were seen as Hull’s main goal threats, but the Canadian was also subject to a season-ending injury.

Whilst his game time was limited, Belloumi still shone, having notched a respectable two goals and two assists in the Championship.

In fact, he was singled out as someone who could be Hull City’s key man this season by Second Tier Podcast’s Justin Peach.

“We were robbed last season because of that pesky ACL,” said Peach. “I’m so gutted we didn’t see more of Belloumi last season.

“Given Hull’s current constraints, I don’t think there’s a player at Hull that has a technical quality that Mohamed Belloumi has.

“We only saw him for 10 games last season, but he got four goal contributions. He was also the highest rated player on who scored despite playing just 10 games.

“I think missing his ability last season was a huge reason why I think Hull struggled to create, and they probably had to completely rethink their approach in wide areas. I think him coming back into the team, as much of a cliché as it is, is going to feel like a new signing this season.”

Sergej Jakirovic’s reign could depend on Mo Belloumi

When Mo Belloumi took to the pitch for Hull City, he showed shades of exactly what they needed – excitement, flair, confidence and the ability to find the back of the net. It could be argued that, if the Algerian was kept fit for the entire season, the Tigers would not have been fending for their lives on the final day of the season.

Providing that Belloumi’s return is successful and that he can get back into his pre-injury rhythm, Hull City could see a change in fortunes for the upcoming season.

For large quantities of last season, Hull City lacked a player who would get the fans off their seats, and they came close to paying the price for that. Fortunately, there is the assurance that that will be delivered by the return of Belloumi this season.
