Sergej Jakirovic urges Hull City to ‘stay optimistic’ after ‘shock’ EFL transfer decision

Hull City are having a very difficult summer.

What started out as an exciting off-season has quickly spiralled into a nightmare with the club currently unable to spend on transfer fees.

The Tigers have players lined up ready to sign if this restriction is lifted soon, but with key targets like Louie Barry moving to Sheffield United, they are running out of time to build a squad capable of moving away from the bottom of the table.

Sergej Jakirovic replaced Ruben Selles at the start of the summer, but these first months have been tough for him at Hull. Nevertheless, he is remaining positive about the situation.

It’s been a frustrating month for those at the MKM Stadium, and with just over two weeks to go until the first Championship games of the season, panic will be starting to set in for supporters.

However, Jakirovic has been clear in his own approach and he is trying his best to calm Hull fans. He said (via: Hull Live): “I know in this job I’m prepared for everything. I have experience so I hate the summer because it’s very long, too long.

“You can lose a player on August 31 at 23:59 p.m. (or whenever the window closes), so it’s very difficult for us coaches, but we have a plan. We know which players will make transfers away from the club, and we will have a replacement for them. Of course, this situation with the embargo, with the appeal, maybe it has slowed us down a little bit.

“Yes, of course it’s hard. It’s hard because we had our targets in the first week or when we started pre-season, but then all of a sudden, we had the shock (of the EFL news). It’s hard, but we must stay positive, we must stay optimistic.

“The lads are working very hard, so I must respect that. What we have, we play with. It’s obvious that we have some positions that we need better quality and maybe faster players in, but we’re working every day, and I hope we will bring some new players in.”

The Tigers have confidence in their situation

While Hull may feel as though they are in a dire position right now, internally, there seems to be a high level of confidence that the club can get themselves out of this situation.

In comparison, those at Sheffield Wednesday are incredibly worried that Dejphon Chansiri will not even sell the club after a planned takeover of the Owls fell through last week.

There is still plenty of time until the transfer window shuts, and Hull will be hoping for a resolution to this issue quickly. If not, a poor start to the campaign could leave them vulnerable to their rivals who have strengthened.
