Frank Lampard reveals why Derby County win was one of his ‘favourite games’ as Coventry City manager

Derby County and Coventry City were able to serve up a Championship classic as the two played out an eight-goal thriller.

Coventry were 5-3 winners on the day at Pride Park as Frank Lampard returned to his old stomping ground to claim three points and leave John Eustace waiting for his first points of the season.

It’s been a frustrating window for Lampard, who has had to deal with several links to some of his key players, including Southampton’s potential move for Jack Rudoni.

The win was some welcome news for Lampard and the Sky Blues boss went as far as to say it was one of his best.

Frank Lampard loved Coventry win against Derby

At one point in the game Coventry found themselves 3-2 down and there must’ve been a feeling around the ground suggesting that they wouldn’t get back into it.

However, they were able to score three times in seven minutes without reply to take the three points back to the West Midlands.

Lampard loved the belief from his players and listed the game as one of the best from his days as a manager.

He said: “The biggest thing was that we showed belief at 3-2 down.

“There was a feeling for me that we could still do something and the players did it, so it was one of my favourite games that I’ve had since I’ve been here because I thought they were fantastic.”

Coventry’s incredible record under Frank Lampard

Many turned their noses up at the idea of Lampard taking over from club icon Mark Robins, citing his previous failures in other managerial jobs.

It’s been quite the opposite though as the Chelsea legend closes in on one year in charge of the Sky Blues.

From his 36 games in charge, Lampard has won 19 of them and lost 11 and helped transform their season from being in the bottom half to play-off semi-finalists.

They’re expected to be challenging in the Championship’s top six once again and can’t be ruled out if they continue comebacks like this.
