He almost joined Hull City this summer now £8.6m star is facing months on the sidelines with ACL injury

There is less than two weeks to go now until the curtain comes down on the summer transfer window, and for Hull City, it’s been a bit of a strange one.

Having come close to signing Louie Barry in early July, a three-window transfer fee ban was handed to the Tigers, thus limiting them to free agents and loans, although that has now been reduced to a two-window ban.

Nevertheless, for the most part, Sergej Jarkirovic has made this work. Oli McBurnie rejected Sheffield United and Swansea City to make his way to the MKM Stadium, with the Scotland international scoring an injury-time winner against Oxford United on Sunday.

However, throughout the summer, Hull have been linked with striker Matija Frigan. Their financial restrictions have made a move near-impossible, and now the forward is set for a lengthy spell in the treatment room.

The 22-year-old has now left Westerlo after Jakirovic had all but given up on a deal, and he made the switch to Parma on 15 August for around €10m (£8.6m), as per Fabrizio Romano.

Frigan made his debut for the Italian outfit on Sunday, featuring for the final 11 minutes of his new side’s 2-0 cup victory over Delfino Pescara.

However, it was confirmed by the club on Tuesday that their new signing suffered a ruptured ACL in training in the days following, and now he will miss the majority of the campaign as he recovers.

The club stated (via: parmacalcio1913.com, translated from Italian): “Parma Calcio’s medical staff announces that this morning, during the training session at the Mutti Training Center in Collecchio, Matija Frigan interrupted his activity due to a sprained left knee.

“Following the instrumental examinations, performed in the afternoon, the rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament of the left knee was highlighted for the striker. The team, the technical staff and all of Parma Calcio wish Matija to return stronger than before on the pitch! Come on Matija, we are with you!”

For Frigan, this is an incredibly disappointing and frustrating situation. This was the big move that he wanted, but it has not worked out yet.

However, Hull have found their star striker in the form of McBurnie, and supporters will be excited to see him in action once again this weekend against Blackburn Rovers at home.

The ex-Sheffield United man scored and provided two assists on his home debut, and the MKM Stadium will be rocking once again on Saturday as the Tigers look to continue their unbeaten start to the season.

Nevertheless, for Frigan, he must be wondering what if he had been able to join Hull this summer.
