As the reality of their Championship play-off final defeat sets in, Sheffield United are preparing for another automatic promotion push in 2025/26.
It was agony for the Blades last weekend as Sunderland came from behind to win 2-1, with Tommy Watson’s 95th-minute winner breaking Chris Wilder’s heart.
Frustratingly, up until Eliezer Mayenda equalised for the Black Cats, it was Sheffield United who dominated the fixture but just couldn’t extend their 1-0 advantage.
Their attacking surges were unsurprisingly led by midfielder Gustavo Hamer, who produced a 10/10 performance on the Wembley turf despite falling to defeat.
The Championship Player of the Year was simply breathtaking to watch as he showcased his Premier League-level class, leaving supporters fearing the worst over his future.

Gustavo Hamer’s stance on leaving Sheffield United now revealed
Championship fans were stunned by Hamer’s display on Saturday, seeing him as someone capable of making the step up.
The 27-year-old is currently being chased by Leeds United, who tried to sign him last summer, as well as Everton, Brentford and Fulham.
We also exclusively revealed that Hamer is likely to leave Sheffield United amid top-flight interest, but as it stands, the Brazilian is currently settled at his current club and is in no rush to try and force an exit, according to The Star.
That being said, he is in his peak years, and like many players, will be keen to test himself at the highest level once more after their relegation in 2024.
Hamer isn’t the only one being courted by clubs in the division above, though, as teammate Vinicius Souza has Premier League interest after his impressive campaign.

Hamer’s previous comments give Sheffield United hope
Any player would be tempted by interest from England’s top flight, and after a standout campaign in the Championship, he deserves to be snapped up.
The former Netherlands under-20 star amassed 10 goals and eight assists in all competitions, predominantly playing in a role cutting in from the left flank.
But although Premier League interest is tempting ahead of a gruelling campaign in the second tier, Hamer’s previous comments and admiration for Wilder suggest he could commit to another term.
When asked about why he wanted to stay at Bramall Lane earlier on in the season, despite facing a two-point deduction and the recruitment push being delayed by a takeover battle, Hamer replied: “Well, that’s the question people always ask me. My question is, why would people think it’s not going to go alright?
“I mean, you can see with the players we’ve got. Ollie Arblaster, Sydie Peck, Andre Brooks … the academy players who are coming through are unbelievable, and they make it so hard for people. Or when they’re brought in, they play well.
“So my question is always, why shouldn’t we? Of course, it was a tight squad, that’s true. The gaffer, with his staff, did an unbelievable job in the short time to get us, in the first couple of games, an unbelievable record in my opinion.”
So, while an exit isn’t out of the question, especially with the lure of Premier League football, it appears Hamer has found a home in Sheffield.
