Sheffield Wednesday fans will be praying the new Independent Football Regulator can get themselves in order as soon as possible, because it sounds like Dejphon Chansiri is at the top of their to-do list right now.
It’s been a summer from hell for Sheffield Wednesday, with Dejphon Chansiri failing to pay player wages and HMRC bills on time, leading to hefty punishments for the Owls.
New manager Henrik Pedersen has had to operate under a transfer ban and has seen a slew of key players depart the club. Meanwhile, amid all the chaos, Chansiri has remained largely silent as the club decays around him.
Suffice it to say, the Sheffield Wednesday fans want Chansiri out, but attempts to negotiate a takeover of the club have so far been difficult and slow, to say the least.

Independent Football Regulator has plans for Dejphon Chansiri
Last week, EFL chief Rick Parry claimed the new Independent Football Regulator (IFR) would deal with owners who fail in their duties, like Chansiri, and the latest report on the matter appears to back that up, and then some.
The Times has covered Chansiri and the Sheffield Wednesday fiasco in great detail this weekend, and in its report it states the IFR “is likely to investigate concerns” regarding Chansiri “as a matter of urgency”.
However, we will have to wait three months for that to begin, when the IFR is expected to become operational. At present, the IFR has no chief executive or even a board.
Once they’re up and running, it’s said further legislation could bring about the “power to remove owners” from football clubs, and Sheffield Wednesday are a case that has already been discussed at the very top of the hierarchy within the burgeoning IFR.
While the Sheffield Wednesday takeover process has been bizarre and complex so far, it is said we may be about to see the “beginning of the end” for Chansiri’s reign at Hillsborough. The unpredictability of Chansiri could still change that, but there is at least hope on the horizon.

What we know about the EFL and Dejphon Chansiri so far
While Rick Parry has outlined the ways the IFR can deal with Chansiri, there is still a belief from within the Sheffield Wednesday Supporters’ Trust that the EFL should have done more to help the situation already.
We do understand that the EFL will work with any new owner at Sheffield Wednesday to try and repair the damage done by Chansiri, but they are seemingly reluctant to step in and punish Chansiri for what he has done.
Getting Chansiri out of the club will be key to any progress, but according to local reporter Rob Staton, Chansiri doesn’t even want to sell the Owls.
Meanwhile, club legend Carlton Palmer believes Chansiri isn’t even short of cash, and is simply holding out on Sheffield Wednesday and refusing to put more money into the club.
