Leicester City could now replace Ruud van Nistelrooy with history-making Championship manager

Leicester City supporters are preparing for a complete overhaul of the football club this summer following relegation to the Championship.

For starters, Jamie Vardy confirmed he will be leaving Leicester at the end of the 2024/25 campaign, drawing the curtain on an incredible 13 years at the King Power Stadium.

The Foxes could also witness several players exit the club, with Wilfred Ndidi boasting a £9 million release clause in his contract and Bilal El Khannouss wanted by Arsenal.

Those are just two of many poised to depart Leicester this summer, and they could be joined by Ruud van Nistelrooy, who is facing the sack after a dismal six months.

Van Nistelrooy replaced Steve Cooper in November, but has won just three of his 22 matches in charge and could now be replaced ahead of pre-season.

Leicester City considering Liam Manning to replace Ruud van Nistelrooy

A number of managers have been linked with the Leicester post as talks of sacking the 48-year-old continue to dominate the headlines.

We exclusively revealed that Leicester placed Lee Carsley on their managerial radar, and the Foxes have also eyed former Southampton boss Russell Martin, Cesc Fabregas, Liam Rosenior, and Sheffield Wednesday manager Danny Rohl.

Now, according to well-known journalist Ben Jacobs, Bristol City’s Liam Manning is another name being considered to replace Van Nistelrooy this summer.

Manning has done an excellent job at the Robins, having led them to a Championship play-off finish for the first time since 2007/08.

The 39-year-old, formerly of Oxford United and MK Dons, sees his contract at Ashton Gate expire in 2027 and is one of the most exciting young managers in the EFL.

Manning would be an excellent Van Nistelrooy replacement

When Enzo Maresca led Leicester to the Championship title in 2024, supporters enjoyed watching his possession-oriented style.

The Foxes dominated a lot of their games and had the quality in attack to hurt their opponents, with the likes of Vardy, Abdul Fatawu, and Stephy Mavididi tearing the second-tier apart.

Manning’s philosophy at Bristol City corresponds to what fans would like to see, encouraging a high pressing and possession-based style that has worked wonders at the Robins.

Naturally, a move to Leicester would be a step up for him in management but, he’s currently settled in Bristol and there’s a lot of unknowns at the King Power Stadium this summer.

Also, what happens with Manning could depend on how the play-offs go. Should Bristol City win promotion, the Englishman surely becomes unattainable for Leicester.

However, them failing in the play-offs could prompt Manning to be tempted by a move to the relegated Foxes, who will have a big budget to spend.
