Middlesbrough are building towards the new Championship campaign, looking to build upon their eighth-place finish in the last campaign with hopes that they can make the play-offs this season.

New Middlesbrough manager Rob Edwards took charge of his first pre-season friendly on July 19, facing Mansfield Town.

After securing a three-goal lead, Boro were pegged back and forced to settle for a 3-3 draw.

Middlesbrough then lost to Bradford City earlier this week, though Edwards was quick to praise a couple of players.

One fan joked about the situation as they said: “I’m not in a good enough mental state for Hayden Hackney to be left out of the matchday squad without a full explanation.”

While another agreed with their sentiment, as they said: “If anyone is surprised by Hackney going, then you stay under your shell; it was obvious after our final game last season.”

Every fan seems to see the writing on the wall regarding Hackney, with most simply writing messages to the club’s announcement along the lines of this fan who said: “So long, Hackney.”

As he looks destined to leave, fans were calling for reinforcements, as they believe their team looks weak ahead of this match with Rangers.

One said: “That lineup and bench is unbelievably poor.”

Middlesbrough’s latest signing has been named to face Rangers

As it appears that Hackney will be leaving the club, the newest recruit for Middlesbrough is set to get his first minutes wearing the red and white of Middlesbrough.

Alfie Jones has just joined the club from Hull City, and he is already named in the team to face Rangers, with him being among the replacements.

Fans will be hoping he can hit the ground running, and that starts with the friendly against Rangers.
