Middlesbrough fans can’t stop laughing at the latest Hayden Hackney transfer rumour, ‘not a chance’

Hayden Hackney is expected to leave Middlesbrough this summer, but fans really don’t believe it’ll be for the latest club to be linked.

It’s been known for some time, and as he first shared in March, that Hayden Hackney would likely leave Middlesbrough if they failed to make the play-offs this past season.

Hackney is Boro’s most sellable asset, and all money earned from a transfer would be pure profit due to him coming up via the club’s academy.

Since 2024/25 came to a close, there has been plenty of interest in the England U21 midfielder.

EFL Analysis reported earlier in July that Hackney was changing agents ahead of leaving Middlesbrough, with a host of clubs having shown interest in him.

Said teams were Crystal Palace, Nottingham Forest, Sunderland, Tottenham Hotspur, Manchester United, FC Porto, Bayer Leverkusen, Eintracht Frankfurt and Atalanta.

It then emerged on July 9 that Everton had joined the race for Hackney. Now, another team has been linked.

Ipswich Town were relegated from the Premier League in 2024/25 and will now compete with Boro in the second tier from next month.

Despite their relegation, it’s been claimed that the Tractor Boys have made an approach for Hackney this week.

Middlesbrough fans have been reacting to the news on social media, with many finding a potential move hilarious.

One fan wrote: “Needed a good laugh today, cheers gents.”

@davidgibb45 simply responded with five laughing face emojis.

@Jack__boro posted “What”, followed by a rolling on the floor laughing emoji.

@8urto commented on the link to Ipswich with three laughing emojis.

Another Middlesbrough fan replied: “Or ye like he’d even entertain that.”

Middlesbrough transfer update

Away from potential exits, Boro could finally be closing in on their first signing of the summer.

EFL Analysis shared this week that Danny Ings hoped for a Premier League move after leaving West Ham United.

But Middlesbrough are in advanced talks for the striker, who has had interest from the MLS as well.

Boro are keen on Alfie Gilchrist of Chelsea as well, as we first reported last month, while a move for Callum Brittain is in the works.
