After a miserable week that included two defeats and a key player leaving, Norwich City fans were given a much-needed glimmer of hope this weekend.
Defeats to Middlesbrough and Southampton, at home no less, left Norwich City fans feeling pretty deflated about their chances of success under Liam Manning this season.
Then, with Marcelino Nunez’s controversial move to Ipswich Town confirmed, the fanbase lost their collective minds.
Thankfully, a fairly comfortable win over Blackburn Rovers at Ewood Park kept up a 13-year unbeaten record for Norwich, and put the concerned Canaries in a much happier place.

What Norwich City fans are saying about Josh Sargent
Two goals from star man Josh Sargent sealed the win for Norwich, and at a time when loyalties have been questioned, seeing the USA striker bagging goals and celebrating with passion was exactly what the Canaries needed.
Taking to Twitter/X after the game, one Norwich fan wrote: “In a week where authenticity of what it means to be Norwich City has been brought into question, Joshua Thomas Sargent restores it in abundance.”
Another added: “I don’t think you can underestimate how important that win is. Having someone like Sargent is gold-dust in this league.”
Sargent’s celebration, where he pounded the Norwich City badge, had fans very excited, with one saying: “Sargent gets what it means to bleed yellow and green! He loves us and is here to stay.”
There has been continuous talk of Sargent leaving Norwich City before deadline day, but clearly the fanbase believes this win could be a turning point for their whole season.
“What feels like a huge moment in the season. My goodness we needed that,” one Norwich supporter said, while another added, “Sargent. A genuine cheat code at this level.”
Having one last dig (for now) at their rivals Ipswich Town, a Norwich fan claimed: “Unfortunately for a certain team, signing Marcelino Núñez won’t help you win a game. However, Josh Sargent staying will.”

Keeping Josh Sargent is the most important thing Norwich City will do this summer
That’s now six goals in five games this season for Sargent, and it’s pretty clear that Norwich’s season will largely hinge on whether they can keep him beyond transfer deadline day.
Incredibly, Sargent has only accumulated an xG of 3.0, so he’s massively outperforming in front of goal and will probably continue to do so this season.
| Statistics | Josh Sargent 2025/26 |
| Games | 5 |
| Goals | 6 |
| xG | 3.0 |
| Shots on target | 37.5% |
| Shot-creating actions/90 | 2.62 |
| Aerial duel success | 38.1% |
He’s arguably the best player in the Championship, and was last season, too. If Norwich can keep him, they’ll always have a steady supply of goals and he will singlehandedly win them games this year.
After the uproar around the reasoning behind Nunez’s move, selling Sargent would not only be detrimental to the team, but it would also turn the fans against the club’s hierarchy entirely. It would be the epitome of irreparable damage, frankly.
