A number of teams are still embroiled in the Championship relegation battle, including a Plymouth Argyle side and a handful more who remain clinging on for dear life.
Miron Muslic and co. were defeated 2-0 by Hull City in East Yorkshire on Tuesday evening, leaving Plymouth in an even more perilous position at the bottom of the Championship.
Goals from Leeds United loanee Joe Gelhardt and wide player Abu Kamara were enough to seal the points for Ruben Selles’ side, easing their own worries regarding the relegation zone.

In many ways, it has been another enthralling season in the second tier, and there’s still plenty of time left for clubs to reshape the landscape of their futures. However, Plymouth are running out of games and time to do so.
With 11 league fixtures remaining, Plymouth remain inside the bottom three. Argyle have been inside the relegation zone for all but 14 matchdays of the season.
A look at the bottom of the Championship table tells us that, realistically, anyone from 17th-placed Portsmouth down could get relegated but many Plymouth fans have now written themselves off.

The reaction as Plymouth lose 2-0 in crucial match to Hull City
Even if shoots of life have sprung under the tutelage of Muslic thus far, losing such a vital game is a serious blow to their survival chances.
There still remain fixtures on the horizon that can have a big impact on their season, with Portsmouth and Derby County soon to come in games that could determine their second tier status.
Of course, much of the issues were prevalent under Wayne Rooney as well as Muslic, but Plymouth’s defensive woes have still reared their ugly head in the ten league games he has been in charge of so far, which was apparent last night.
Before the game, many believed Muslic could save Plymouth. Now, they’re not so sure.
There are mixed feelings towards the Plymouth boss, but more fans took to Twitter/X to explain that they are frustrated with the club’s decision to appoint his predecessor. One supporter said:
Another shared similar feelings regarding Rooney’s appointment: “Ultimately. After the pure euphoria of staying up on the last day of the season, to then have a chance of a fresh start, a chance of redemption… For us to cockily and foolishly appoint Wayne Rooney out of all the available options. We deserve to be relegated. We really do.”
Plenty of fans have time for the current boss, but are not positive about their chances, one added:
While others do not believe the team is up to second tier standard, remarking: “We’re gone. Done. Fully deserved. Nowhere near Championship quality.”
Some went a step further and expect trouble in League One in 2025/26, stating the following:
Finally, one fan bemoaned their recent results against sides around them, he said: “Two points from Luton, Cardiff and Hull is stunning, and those three performances deserve relegation. League One is gonna be a laugh next season anyway.”

Plymouth should be worried about League One if they are relegated from the Championship
The Pilgrims enjoyed some recent relief via their FA Cup journey. And, even in defeat, the Championship side can proudly look back on the clash with Man City knowing they achieved something truly unique when they prevented Erling Haaland from scoring.
However, their league campaign took a serious hit at Hull, given that it would have certainly been earmarked as a must-win game against a relegation rival. There are not many fixtures of that kind left and they are running out of time.

Some degree of comfort for sides like Plymouth is that, for whoever survives this season, it looks like there will be a really serious threat of relegation again next year anyway unless drastic improvements are made over the summer.
As seen by reactions during Plymouth’s match against Luton Town, nerves hang by a thread for many fans involved in the relegation battle. However, they will all also be looking nervously at the likes of Birmingham City, who are relentless in League One right now, and wondering how they would fare next season.
