Queens Park Rangers have beaten Scottish Premier League giants, Rangers, to the signing of in-demand Peterborough United winger Kwame Poku.

QPR finished 15th in the second tier last season, and the club’s summer business shows they are intent on breaking into the top-six in the 2025/26 Championship campaign.

Julien Stephen was targeted by QPR to replace Marti Cifuentes after Cifuentes was put on gardening leave by QPR towards the end of last season.

Stephan’s first words as QPR boss will have filled the Loftus Road faithful with excitement ahead of next season, and that optimism will now only ramp up with the Hoops’ latest signing.

QPR recently unveiled the capture of Kwame Poku, and in the process, made a hilarious swipe at one of their competitors for his signature, Scottish giants Rangers.

QPR fans react to Rangers swipe as new signing Kwame Poku unveiled

It was revealed earlier this week that three clubs agreed deals for Poku, and after days of speculation, QPR won the race to sign Poku from Peterborough United.

Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony feared Poku would join Rangers, who held serious interest in the winger throughout the summer and could’ve signed him on a free transfer given he was almost out of contract, but the Ghanaian starlet has signed on the dotted line at Loftus Road.

As well as Rangers, Birmingham City wanted to sign Poku earlier this summer, but their interest faded before QPR pounced to secure the statement signing.

QPR fans were not only delighted by the winger’s unveiling, but equally found joy in the Hoops’ swipe towards their Scottish Premier League namesakes, after beating Rangers to the 23-year-old’s signature.

After QPR captioned his unveiling: “Kwame Poku signs for 𝗧𝗛𝗘 Rangers 😏”, one Hoops fan said: “Absolutely love the dig at Glasgow Rangers there”.

Another QPR supporter said: “Made my day seeing the salty rangers and Brum fans! Welcome to the bigger club son”, as another added: “Rattled a few there”.

“Love this signing.” said one Hoops fan, as another added: “Good luck Kwame, welcome to the club”.

Another QPR supporter posted: “Welcome. Good luck. Go smash it!”

Amid the delight of the Loftus Road faithful on social media, QPR’s CEO lifted the lid on beating “Europe-competing teams” to Poku’s signature.

QPR CEO admits club beat European competition to sign Kwame Poku

Poku was hailed as “unplayable” by Posh boss Darren Ferguson within the 2024/25 League One campaign, and it’s clear to see why when analysing the right-winger’s metrics.

After Poku was unveiled as the Hoops’ latest summer signing, QPR CEO Christian Nourry told QPR’s website: “Kwame is a player that the QPR recruitment department have been interested in for over four years.

“His decision to join the football club today in the face of interest from Europe-competing teams abroad and Championship teams with significantly bigger budgets than us is a fantastic validation of the direction we are moving in, including a specialised focus on individual player development.

“I wish Kwame all the very best success at QPR.”

Buoyed by the signing of Poku, QPR are dark horses next season for a top-six finish, and the R’s faithful will be hopeful that the highly-coveted starlet will play a pivotal role.
