Sheffield Wednesday fans are fearing the worst as Championship fixtures revealed, ‘it’s pointless…’

The mood around Sheffield Wednesday is far from positive right now, and even the reveal of the fixtures for the new season has not been enough to lift the fans’ spirits.

Between Dejphon Chansiri refusing to leave, and Danny Rohl being desperate to go, it’s safe to say Sheffield Wednesday are in a bit of a mess at the moment.

The club currently has a three-window transfer ban hanging over its head, and faces the possibility of a points deduction ahead of the new season unless player wages (and impending HMRC bills) are paid soon.

Things are looking pretty bleak as it stands. You’d think that the release of the Championship fixtures for 2025/26 would be something to look forward to, then, but fans around S6 are not in the mood to think about the upcoming games at all.

Sheffield Wednesday fans are not looking forward to the new season

Clubs across the EFL now know who they will be facing on the opening day of the season, as well as key dates throughout the footballing calendar.

For Sheffield Wednesday supporters, though, the sentiment ranges from wondering whether they will even have a team to watch come August, and if they do, how bad the scorelines will be.

One fan said, “This is the least excited I have been for a return to football I can ever remember,” while another added, “Can’t see any games where we get a point let alone three.”

Others wrote, “Every single one of those fixtures look daunting,” and another offered up a grave prediction, stating, “We’ll be relegated by Christmas!!”

For one Owls fan, the prospect of the campaign ahead is “pointless,” with the suggestion that Wednesday now “need to look at long term. League One with new owners, basically.”

It’s not all bad, though. One fan saw the bright side, writing: “At least I’ll get to tick Wrexham off my list before we go bust.”

Another looked at the opening day fixture, an away game against Leicester City, and half-jokingly replied: “What are the odds on Rohl standing on the touchline first game, arms folded, wearing a Leicester tracksuit?”

Predicting results for Sheffield Wednesday’s first six games

Sheffield Wednesday’s opening fixture away at Leicester will be tough. The only positive there at the moment is that, if Ruud van Nistelrooy is sacked as we expect, the Foxes will have a slightly truncated pre-season and a new manager may still be finding their feet.

The problem is, the Owls are likely to be in a similar boat, if not worse. Leicester should win this one fairly comfortably, with a 3-0 home victory.

After that, a home clash with Stoke City presents a real opportunity for Wednesday to get something on the board. If it was last season, they’d win this one, but we’ll hedge our bets with a score draw.

An away trip to Wrexham follows, and while the Red Dragons may be the new boys in the division, their home record twinned with the fact they’re likely to recruit well this summer means they’ll fancy their chances. Phil Parkinson will get three points there.

Back-to-back home games against Swansea City and Bristol City also give Wednesday a chance to pick up a result. We’ll back them to get a win from either side, with a draw in the other; most likely Swansea will be the one the Owls can defeat.

As for matchweek six, a trip to Fratton Park is never easy, as Pompey proved last season. Wednesday would take a draw there, and it’ll be tight, but Portsmouth might just grab a 1-0 win.

Overall, you’re looking at 5-6 points from the first six games. That’s not the best start, and would certainly set Sheffield Wednesday up for a struggle in the season ahead. But, we have to be realistic here, and things are not looking good.
