A Sheffield Wednesday spokesperson has provided the club’s views on Danny Rohl’s recent comments in the media.
Whilst the 2024/25 Championship season is over for Sheffield Wednesday, there is still plenty of uncertainty surrounding the future of Danny Rohl.
Sheffield Wednesday boss Rohl took over in October 2023 from the winless Xisco Munoz, and managed to lead the Owls to a miraculous escape from the Championship relegation zone. Fast forward a season, and Rohl managed to build on that by leading his side to finish 12th in the league, whilst also keeping hopes of a play-off push alive earlier on in the campaign.
After two seasons, Rohl has indicated that his time at Sheffield Wednesday is up, having conducted interviews in the German media, in which he said: “I always want to work with the best players and compete with the best coaches. The Bundesliga is, of course, a top choice. After all, I grew up with the Bundesliga. But the Premier League is also a dream. I’m currently very excited to see what happens this summer.”
Such comments from a manager still in a job is very strange, and it hasn’t taken long for Sheffield Wednesday to respond.

Sheffield Wednesday spokesperson confirms club stance on ‘under contract’ Danny Rohl
Off the pitch, it has been a rather turbulent period for the club, with much of the dissatisfaction being sourced back to Dejphon Chansiri’s ownership of Sheffield Wednesday.
Rohl has made it clear many times that Chansiri is aware of his stance at the club, an obscure, but fairly obvious suggestion that the German isn’t likely to be Sheffield Wednesday’s boss at the start of next season.
However, such comments to come from a coach whilst still under contract is a very left-field way to look for a new job, and it has led to a Sheffield Wednesday spokesperson having to confirm the club’s stance on the situation.
Per The Star, a Sheffield Wednesday spokesperson said: “We can confirm there is no such agreement in place. Danny Rohl remains under contract with Sheffield Wednesday.”

Danny Rohl must ensure he does not undo brilliant reputation from Wednesday spell
As for recent years at Sheffield Wednesday, it felt as though the fans would struggle to have another coach that would connect with the fanbase just like Darren Moore was able to do in the promotion winning season, but Rohl proved that to be incorrect.
At a time of instability for the club, Rohl gave Sheffield Wednesday fans the license to dream this season, with play-offs at one point being a possibility.
It would be disappointing to see Rohl undo all that hard work, and whilst he will always be remembered as a brilliant coach at Sheffield Wednesday, the way he is going about the off-season is rather poor for a coach still under contract. It is fair to suggest Rohl has the ability to coach in the Premier League or Bundesliga, but there needs to be a level of respect for the Owls fans who welcomed you in.
