Sky Sports pundit says Sheffield Wednesday are now selling player ‘that he really likes’

Sheffield Wednesday exits are expected to come thick and fast over the summer amid their financial crisis.

Sheffield Wednesday have been handed a triple transfer embargo, which means they can’t currently spend any money on players.

One of the main issues at the club is owner Dejphon Chansiri not being able to pay wages on time.

This issue means that players who haven’t been paid for two months in a row are able to terminate their contracts and leave for free.

Josh Windass wants to depart Sheffield Wednesday amid interest from the likes of Rangers, Derby County and Wrexham.

Meanwhile, a Djeidi Gassama transfer to Rangers is expected to be completed soon.

Sky Sports pundit on Djeidi Gassama leaving Sheffield Wednesday for Rangers

In terms of a potential transfer fee, previous reports floated a figure of around £2.5m, though exactly how much the Gers will pay is not yet known.

It will certainly come as a boost for the Owls on the financial front, but will, of course, weaken their squad given that he can’t be replaced with a permanent signing.

Now, Sky Sports pundit Don Godman has been speaking about Gassama joining Rangers and has had some harsh words for Wednesday.

He told Football League World: “Three goals in his first season at Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship and I think it’s seven or eight in his second – Djeidi Gassama has progressed there’s no doubt.

“Musaba is a player that I really like, really quick, really dynamic, really direct – again young enough for a club to maybe knock the rough edges off and polish a really good player up.

“But yeah, it was inevitable that given the situation that Sheffield Wednesday are in that they are going to lose some of their best players, particularly the ones they can gain a fee for.

“The club’s a mess, finances are a mess and I suppose they need to rake in every penny they can. Unfortunately, it’s having a really negative impact”

How much will Sheffield Wednesday save on Djeidi Gassama wages

As well as a potential £2.5m transfer fee, selling Gassama will reduce Wednesday’s wage bill slightly.

Capology report that the player has been taking home £1,500-a-week, or  £78,000-a-year with the Owls.

That figure isn’t huge and pales in comparison to some of the club’s other highest earners, but it’s still a saving.
