Some social media content from the Blades perfectly showcases how happy the Sheffield United stars are to see Chris Wilder back.
Sheffield United have reappointed Chris Wilder as manager, only three months after sacking him following the Championship play-off final defeat to Sunderland.
Ruben Selles’ short-lived stint as Sheffield United boss was nothing short of disastrous, with the Spaniard overseeing six straight losses before being sacked.
Former defender Chris Basham has praised Sheffield United’s Wilder move, but it will not be plain sailing for the boyhood Blades fan.
Wilder has several problems to solve after the Blades’ barren start to the season, and the Sheffield United squad are unsurprisingly happy to see him return.

Sheffield United squad react to Chris Wilder’s return
Sheffield United officially announced Wilder’s return on Monday afternoon after Wilder led Sheffield United training on Monday morning following the embarrassing 5-0 loss against Ipswich Town.
Morale will have been on the floor at Bramall Lane in the wake of the Portman Road embarrassment, which proved to be Selles’ last game in charge, given the magnitude and manner of the loss.
A slightly more tanned Wilder has been back among the squad, meeting several of the summer arrivals at Sheffield United and shaking hands with some familiar faces.
In a piece of social media content from Sheffield United, the Blades squad are visibly elated to see Wilder once again, and their reaction speaks volumes about his sacking and the failed fiasco of the Selles experiment.
Wilder’s Sheffield United squad is very different from the one he played in the play-off final, with several of his top stars, including Anel Ahmedhodzic and Kieffer Moore, departing between his exit and reappointment.
One player who featured in both the play-off final defeat and Selles’ final game was young midfielder Sydie Peck, and some eagle-eyed Blades supporters spotted his particularly wholesome interaction with Wilder.

Chris Wilder’s wholesome interaction with Sydie Peck was telling
Peck broke through into the Sheffield United squad under Wilder’s tutelage following his first reappointment in December 2023.
Since then, the Blades academy graduate has featured 54 times for the club, and was particularly impressive throughout last season in the heart of midfield.
The 21-year-old’s form last season saw West Ham interested in Peck this summer, but the central midfielder stayed at Bramall Lane beyond the window.
Under Selles, Peck struggled under his stewardship, but his form is set to turn around with Wilder back in the dugout as one Blades fan spotted his telling interaction with the boss who brought him into the first team.
As he proved last season, Peck is one of the top young players in the Championship, and Wilder will no doubt be pivotal to the midfielder getting back to his best form following his return.
