The chances for survival for each Championship side have been reviewed with three games to play.

With three games left to play in the 2024/25 Championship campaign, the current fight for survival sees a handful of sides looking to avoid the drop.

This weekend, the current fight took an unexpected turn as an in-form Derby County side fell short against relegation contenders Luton Town. Derby’s performance was disappointing and well-short of the previous levels set by John Eustace’s side.

Elsewhere, Hull City suffered a spiritless defeat to Swansea City on their travels, and Plymouth Argyle lost to Middlesbrough away. Cardiff City continued their winning drought, leading to the hierarchy making a swift move to replace Omar Riza with Aaron Ramsey as a last roll of the dice.

Following the recent action, each Championship team’s likelihood of relegation this season has now been reviewed…

Updated OPTA Championship relegation predictions

Several sides in the Championship can still mathematically suffer relegation to the third tier, but the tally of sides in major danger stands at five.

The current bottom three consists of Plymouth Argyle, Cardiff City, and Luton Town, whilst Derby County and Hull City are still very much within the conversation for the drop.

Here are the current relegation chances for each side and how it has changed from last week’s OPTA Predictions

Luton Town’s victory against the Rams appears to have been crucial in shaping the landscape of the relegation scrap, especially from Derby County’s persoectvie, who have been fully dragged back into danger.

Out-of-form Hull City could give fellow relegation rivals glimmer of hope

With five sides in with a serious chance of facing the drop, the current bottom three will be keeping an eye on the results for Hull City and Derby County. The foot-end of the table became much more congested after the Tigers and the Rams suffered defeat, but one was much more expected, and that was the loss handed to Ruben Selles’ Hull City.

Hull’s increase of 4.06% likelihood of relegation is telling of how their weekend unfolded, which saw a very poor showing against Swansea City, and it is one that certainly hasn’t filled fans with hope.

The Tigers face Preston North End next, and then the penultimate game of the campaign will see Hull City pitted against Derby County, one that will potentially throw either side into the deep end, if the current bottom three keep up.
