Curtis Davies claims Derby County ‘didn’t do anything right’ in defeat to Luton Town

Luton Town claimed a huge victory at Pride Park against Derby County to ease their relegation fears ahead of the 3pm Championship matches.

Set-pieces have been key for both teams all season long. They were again for Luton as Millenic Alli secured the first of the game to give them the lead before half-time. It was a strong first 45 from Matt Bloomfield’s side who limited their hosts to very little.

Luton had it all to do in terms of securing their Championship status and avoiding back-to-back relegations from the Premier League to League One. Prior to the game, the supercomputers had spoken and were backing the Rams to survive at Luton’s expense.

Now, that has been blown wide open due to Luton’s victory away from home. A physical game was expected, but it was Matt Bloomfield’s time to be the man with his team and turn things around now after replacing Rob Edwards by claiming victory at Pride Park.

For Derby, safety could have been in sight if they secured victory against Luton, and many experts expected them to. That did not transpired despite their rally in the second half of the game.

Championship survival continues to be the main talking point for both sets of fans, but the relegation picture has been blown wide open after a fixture Derby often come out on top in. And our player ratings summed up a dismal day.

Curtis Davies played 175 times for the Rams and the Sky Sports pundit had plenty to say after full-time with Luke Chambers.

Chambers said: “That’s what he has instilled in that group the last few weeks — it’s remarkable. They could afford to lose it more than Luton could.

“I think that’s what he [Eustace] is trying to say to keep them as level as possible. With Hull and Stoke in and around them, it’s still in their hands. The pressure will be on West Brom to open up and go and chase those play-off games.

“There’s a real nice few fixtures them and it keeps it on their plate. They’ll have to perform between now and the end of the season.”

Davies added: “I think the context of the game being Luton, yes, it was a difficult one to take. Didn’t do much wrong in the game, but didn’t do anything right. It’s just about wiping this one away and going to the next game.

“Three games to stay in the league.”

Luton secure huge three points against Derby and the data will ease relegation fears

Per Opta Analyst, their predictions suggested that the likely outcome is for the bottom three to remain as it is ahead of the game today. Now, it will almost certainly shift to a more positive outlook for Luton.

This is arguably their biggest win of the campaign so far, as they reel Derby back in and sit on the same points with three games to go. Should the likes of Plymouth Argyle, Cardiff City, and Hull City drop points later on, it could make it an even bigger and sweeter victory.

It was a ‘terrible day’ for Derby and they will need to right this in the coming weeks to survive.
